Former royal chaplain Gavin Ashenden is warning that King Charles’ new language concerning faith is not merely a small change in wording, but a serious spiritual and constitutional shift.
The controversy surrounds the King being described as protecting “the space for Faith within the multi-faith nation,” rather than using the stronger historic language connected to defending the Christian faith.
Ashenden argues that this conflicts with the Coronation Oath, in which the monarch swore to uphold the Protestant Reformed religion established by law.
