JANUARY BLUES
Christmas is a brilliant time of year, but there’s no need to lie awake worrying about how you can afford it - or getting into debt that you will spend the next six months paying off. A bit of forward planning means you should be able to have fun throughout Christmas and New Year, and not be too miserable when January comes around. Unfortunately you still have to pay your bills at Christmas. It gets worse when you are paid before Christmas what is to be spent in January!

Does the prospect of post-Christmas debt cause you serious stress? Often the happiest but also the most expensive time of the year, any good spending habits cultivated throughout the year often go out of the window once party season begins. Is there a way to have as much fun as possible during the festive period without risking financial ruin?

Time to talk on a stress free January!

THE EXPERIENCE MONSTER
Landmark breakthroughs happen when people defy the logic on containment and contentment which says you cannot do it because it has not been done before or which says you cannot do it because no one has done it before. How limiting! This is the thinking that has made leaders into followers, princes into peasants and philanthropists into paupers.

The world stage is reserved for those who dare to be first. The Nobel Prize is not for the masses but for people who dared to step out and do something new - people who dared challenge the popular thought and culture and did not give the excuse of experience. There is no warrior who was born fighting! No CEO was born in the boardroom! Which president had been a president before elections?

The experience monster has caused many people to disconnect from the abundance of possibilities the world has to offer. Soo many people are passing through motions of time and remain ordinary because they have convinced themselves that they do not have the experience to be successful.

Has experience made you overlook what would have been a success? What do you do to overcome the logic that you cannot move to the next level because you lack experience?

What can you afford?
People remain stagnant because they can afford to remain so. The question is, what is it that you can afford? You may not accurately say what you can afford until you know its cost. People say they cannot afford to fail, others say they cannot afford to live the same way again but is this the absolute truth?

When down and out, a complete failure with nothing working for you, you have a decision to make: Blame the world or do something about it. It’s easier to just stay where you are and wait upon donations. Then here is the not soo easy way: evaluate the cost of your inaction.

Visualise what would happen, the reality of your inaction. Would you be able to give your children the kind of life you dreamed of giving them? Will your spouse have the life he/she deserves? Imagine watching life happen and go on leaving you behind? Imagine the thought of people you once interacted with in your success now talking about you in hushed tones because you are an embarrassment to them? Imagine being a case study of how not to do things and being a warning of generations to come? If you can afford the above then good for you but if you cannot, get up and do something towards your goals and dreams.

Sobering discussion? What is it that you can afford?

Debt Management

Are you in debt? The world is awash in a sea of debt. People, families, companies, and even nations are caught in a borrow-and-spend cycle that results in ever-increasing debt loads. There is a crude joke in Kenya that even a new born baby has a debt to some master somewhere on behalf of the government!

The path to insolvency often begins at a young age as children grow up witnessing their parents' struggle with their finances and paying loans. In this era of digital economy and technological advancement, and with the endless streams of advertising; "CRB listed? No money? No problem! Access cash in 24 hours" the idea that everyone has debt and that buying on credit is a normal and acceptable activity is reinforced. Debts are fun when you are acquiring them, but none are fun when you set about retiring them.

To break the debt spiral, you'll need lots of patience. Remember, it took years, perhaps decades, to build up those outstanding debt balances. Recovery will be a similarly slow process. This may require a commitment every month to repay to debts. Engage a financial advisor who will help restructure your income and expenses as you seek to live a debt free life.

Poverty charges interest!
“Being poor now just leads to being poorer. Cannot pay to clean your teeth, next year, pay for root canal. Cannot pay for a new mattress? Next year pay for back surgery. Cannot pay to have that lump checked out? Next year, pay for stage three cancer!”

Every year, thousands of Kenyans are pushed below the national poverty line due to direct medical bills. Today, medical bills are one of the most significant financial burdens facing Kenyans in this modern era. This has led to a more significant concern that most Kenyans are only an illness away from poverty.

So what happens when one falls ill or worse of diagnosed with a terminal condition in Kenya? What if there are no savings that can handle such an eventuality?

Imna and Jimnah Insurance Agency comprehends that finding the right insurance cover is a priority for both you and your family to be able to protect your family’s future dreams and opportunities if anything happens to you.

After one and half years, my husband comes home and I can spend time with him. I am different. I am stronger, braver, more compassionate, dream fiercely, love fiercely, smile harder, God is my best friend, and true to my boss, I am a testimony that God heals.

Cancer might have taken away a part of me, but it left the best of me.

Mama Anne, as is popularly known had all her life well planned. Her husband had finally gotten a job as a driver in Qatar and was supporting the family. Her children were all doin well and Ann, her eldest daughter was just about to do her final exams. Her other two, Jimmy and Elizabeth, couldn’t be better

A housing project was underway and in just some few months they would be finished and earn her a new title, Landlord. Her husband’s contract was to keep him in the Arab world for two years. One day, she start feeling pain in her breast and she thinks is a passing pain, maybe hormonal. She does to work and her boss realizes her discomfort and on examination advises her to go to a clinic a few meters away. This is beginning of the gruesome journey with breast cancer. What will happen to your children? Your husband? Your parents? Your boss, a woman of faith say "Nothing will happen. You will get well and be a testimony of Gods healing power. Above all, I will be with you in this journey." Luckily your boss had ensured that you have an NHIF that was paid throughout. Also that cancer treatment was covered under the NHIF. The entire treatment is paid for by the NHIF. God bless the government!!

The husband’s contract does not allow him to come visit. So it’s either he terminates the contract and come home or continue working for another year and half while the wife battles cancer alone in Kenya.

You don't want to lose your breast. You hang onto it. Some weeks to the 2017 elections, In Kenyatta National Hospital, evening they remove the breast. An angel in the name of a nurse and your boss, make the journey bearable. Being with every hospital visit and make sure that an approval here, an approval there is done and luckily, all the chemo treatments were done as an outpatient and no blood transfusion. In fact, myself and Pst Maureen became pastors on every chemo visit to other chemo patients in Kenyatta National Hospital. Not long after, 8 rounds of chemo and 18 of radiotherapy. You lose your hair and a bit of your mind. You fight the very notion of being a woman until you reach acceptance that you are still one with your remaining breast.
