API Mistake #3: Not Securing Your Callback URL

Your payment integration doesn’t end when you create a callback URL.

The bigger question is: How do you know the data reaching your callback is coming from a trusted source?

When handling payment callbacks, don’t blindly trust every request your system receives. Your application should validate and verify the information before processing it.

One important security measure is IP Whitelisting

By restricting your callback endpoint to requests coming from known and trusted IP addresses, you add another layer of protection against unauthorized requests.

But remember, security doesn’t stop there. You should also consider:

🔹 Validating callback data
🔹 Verifying transaction references and statuses
🔹 Using authentication or signature verification where supported
🔹 Protecting your callback endpoint
🔹 Preventing duplicate processing

Developers, don’t make this payment API mistake!

One of the most common mistakes when integrating payment APIs is assuming that a successful payment initialization response = successful payment.

It doesn’t. 👀

A payment has to be confirmed before your system treats it as complete.

Otherwise, you could end up with:
❌ Orders marked as paid when they aren’t
