Today, KDC Director General Norah Ratemo participated in the MSME Investor Roundtable: Unlocking Private Sector Finance for MSMEs in New York, highlighting the urgent need to expand access to patient and affordable capital for Kenyan MSMEs.

The Green Investment Fund was presented as a practical financing platform, with Britam, the Fund Manager, showcasing its investment proposition. The fund will mobilize private capital to provide equity and equity linked financing to viable MSMEs operating and transitioning to the green economy.

MSMEs need more than access to finance. They need the right capital, at the right stage, on terms that enable them to grow, create jobs and invest in a sustainable future. KDC is calling on investors to partner in expanding the flow of capital to businesses with the potential to drive Kenya’s next phase of inclusive and sustainable growth.

The Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank India) led by Exim Bank Kenyan Rep Sanjay Lumbar, Kusum Singh GM Exim India and Chinmai Rastogi Manager Exim, paid a courtesy call to KDC to strengthen engagement and discuss opportunities for deepening the partnership between the two institutions. The meeting provided an opportunity for KDC Management and the EXIM Bank India team to review the implementation of the existing financing partnership and discuss measures to enhance the utilization and impact of funds made available under the EXIM Bank line of credit.

A key area of discussion was the need to accelerate absorption of the available EXIM Bank financing. The institutions discussed maintaining regular communication on the status of projects in the pipeline, approvals, pending conditions, disbursements and emerging implementation challenges. This would enable issues affecting individual projects to be escalated and resolved more quickly.
As part of the engagement, the EXIM Bank India team is undertaking visits to selected projects that have benefited from the EXIM Bank financing line. The visits provide an opportunity for the delegation to directly assess the implementation and impact of the financed investments.

The team is visiting projects including Meru Nutri Nuts and Thika Cloth, among other beneficiaries. The visits are intended to provide first-hand appreciation of how the financing has supported business expansion, acquisition and installation of productive assets, increased production capacity and broader economic activity.

Driving Progress in Livestock Development and Access to Finance

The 5th DRIVE Project Steering Committee Meeting, chaired by Hon. Jonathan Mueke, Principal Secretary, State Department for Livestock Development, brought together key stakeholders to review progress and strengthen the implementation of the DRIVE Project.

In attendance were KDC Director General, Norah Ratemo, Ms. Regina Ombam, Principal Secretary, State Department for Trade; Benjamin Kamanga, Director, Insurance Fund and Senior Advisor to the Managing Director, ZEP-RE; representatives from the National Treasury and the DRIVE Implementation Unit; and other key stakeholders drawn from government, development finance and the private sector.

The meeting focused on progress made, emerging challenges and priority actions to accelerate implementation and maximise the project's impact on livestock value chains, enterprise development and access to finance.

Through strong collaboration among government institutions, development partners and implementing agencies, the DRIVE Project continues to unlock opportunities, strengthen resilience and support sustainable livelihoods across Kenya’s livestock sector.

Together, we are driving inclusive growth, transforming livestock value chains and building a more resilient and prosperous Kenya.

From the livestock value chain to the capital that can unlock its potential.

This week, KDC took Boresha Mifugo closer to the market, engaging livestock value-chain actors in Mombasa and Machakos as part of the DRIVE Project’s sensitisation across the 21 targeted ASAL counties.

The conversations went beyond finance; exploring opportunities, constraints and investment needs across the value chain, from feed and fodder production and livestock enterprises to meat, leather and other value-addition opportunities.

At the centre was Boresha Mifugo; KDC’s concessional financing solution designed to move viable livestock businesses from opportunity to investment, offering single-digit interest rates, financing of KSh 2 million to KSh 1 billion, and a moratorium of up to 24 months.

The ambition is clear: strengthen the value chain, unlock investment and create better livelihoods.

Boresha Mifugo. Capital for a stronger livestock value chain.
