Engineering insurance is the least understood and unappreciated of the many types of insurance covers available in the East African region. This status stems from ignorance, plus the fact that most insurance professionals are unable to demonstrate its importance to potential clientele. Indeed, some consider it too technical and are unable to explain the underlying differences in contrast with traditional insurance covers such as Fire & Perils insurance, Money, Employee Fraud, Workers Compensation, General & Product Liability, Auto, and similar. In this Risk Management Bulletin No 001/2020, we discuss Project and Works’ insurance. But there are several other engineering insurances, including Machinery Breakdown insurance, Business Interruption insurance as a consequence of machinery breakdown, Electronic Equipment insurance, Deterioration of Stock insurance, Er****on All Risks insurance, among others.

At our firm, APIS, we do not suffer from this handicap. Apart from being qualified and experienced insurers, we are also trained and qualified engineers. We understand the whole spectrum of risks bearing upon individuals, institutions, organisations and businesses. We conduct risk management inspections and discuss, through electronic presentations, our findings [backed by written reports] with our clients; and ultimately put together a comprehensive insurance programme devoid of gaps [or duplications] in the scopes of cover.

Our two executive [working] directors – having worked for more than 60 years [combined, cumulative] with organisations such as AIG, CIC and Munich Re – at MD/CEO levels – we can say with confidence that we have precious little number of equals in the East African region.
