Women entrepreneurs are building income, supporting families, and creating jobs across Dadaab.

Across Ifo 1, Ifo 2, Hagadera, and Dagahaley, over 200 women took part in entrepreneurship clinics focused on how their businesses grow and expand.

The sessions covered identifying business opportunities, developing sustainable income-generating activities, and building enterprises that support families and create jobs.

Backing women in business means stronger local markets, more jobs, and more resilient communities.

This month, 1,863 entrepreneurs graduated from our Business Growth Services program and 68% are women.

As Women’s History Month comes to a close, we’re celebrating the incredible women entrepreneurs of Kakuma who are building businesses, creating jobs, and strengthening their communities.

In Kakuma women like Mashandish Cheruto, who runs a motorbike parts shop and mechanic garage, employing both men and women.
And Kider Salma, whose retail business is making essential, hard-to-find goods more accessible in the camp.

Their stories show what’s possible when women are supported.

Because when women build, they don’t just earn - they create jobs, expand access, and uplift entire local economies.

Business often comes first. Health gets pushed aside, even when everything depends on it.

This March in Kakuma and Lodwar, we partnered with Equity Afia and Lodwar Hills Hospital to reach 300 women entrepreneurs from our member community with essential wellness checks.

The day created space for health screenings, practical guidance, and open conversations about wellbeing. With support from the County Social Services and Gender Office, women also connected to services they can continue accessing beyond the clinic.

Health is what keeps businesses moving. It supports consistent income, stable families, and stronger communities.

On 5th February 2026, we proudly celebrated 1,315 entrepreneurs at a joyful graduation ceremony in Garissa.

Out of these, 905 were women, each choosing to invest in their future through business.

With support in training, advisory services, affordable financing, and market linkages, these entrepreneurs are starting and growing sustainable businesses that support their families and strengthen their communities.

With support from our partners Womankind Worldwide and Refugee Consortium of Kenya, we are expanding opportunities for entrepreneurs across Garissa and reaching more women with the resources they need to succeed.

When women grow their businesses, families have steady incomes and communities become stronger.
