A LETTER TO MY FELLOW KENYANS
Dear Kenyans
Human wants are insatiable this is so because the economic resources which are needed to satisfy them are scarce. Therefore, there is need to put into consideration the importance of each want one spend the resources he on them. The most important want such as food, clothing and shelter should be given the top priority. The concept of insatiability of human wants is universal and applies to all human beings irrespective of their, social class, religion, race or political affiliation.
Money is a scarce economic resource that is used to satisfy all human wants. This means that no one dislike an addition of an extra coin in their pocket. All employees feel that their employers should constantly review their monthly income upwards.
From an economic point of view, addition of money in the economy leads to infliction if it is not accompanied simultaneously by a proportional increase in economic productivity. Based on this fact, employees should demand for salary increment, if and only if, there is an increase in productivity in the economic sector in which they work for.
The point is that all salary increment should be justified by an increase in productivity that results from direct labor provided by the employees demanding for a salary increment.
The major challenge that Kenya has is that government employees demand for salary increment without taking their productivity into consideration. Once government give in to these demands, the poor Kenyans(who are the majority) ends up suffering. The rich become richer and the poor become poorer. Despite Kenya attaining lower middle income status, Kenyans living in the northern part of the country are dying and their livelihood being robbed from them by drought.
One should help me understand the characteristics of a lower middle income country; is it characterized by poor disaster management strategies and increasing income disparity due to unjustified salary increment!!! Something urgent need to be done!!!
