HOMISIKI SAVINGS AND CREDIT CO - OPERATIVE SOCIETY LTD PROFILE
Social media has been perceived by many to be just a fun site where many meets to date, Share stories among others, many a times we have been misusing face book by using it as a channel to spread hate speeches to different and opposing political groups, ethnic groups, religion and also currently face book is used by many to conduct various criminal offences. The norm was broken by some intelligent personalities who thought it better to take the opportunity of face book interaction and socializing to a step ahead of using the already population as an opportunity to introduce to them developmental ideas and agenda. There is an existing group in face book (NG'ERUOK BER, NYISA THURU ANYISI THURWA WAWINJRE WALOS DAK.) where the Sacco idea was introduced and shared for reaction and action therefore, a meeting was scheduled in some of the counties i.e. Migori, Homabay, Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Siaya to discuss on the way forward. Active members adhered to the call and were requested to form a Sacco that would help them invade the market ideas and have a constructive and sustainable financial status of which 95% of more who attended welcomed the idea and promised to soldier on; thereafter a baby was born on 3rd November 2013, and named Homisiki (Homabay, Migori, Siaya, and Kisumu). So far the Sacco has enrolled 169 members on board. However, it has not been an easy task to make people believe on that due to fear of the unknown and trust but the pioneers have never been discovered with the cold, thorny and rocky journey towards development. eradicating the fear of unknown has been a challenge and gaming member`s trust has been a white elephant but with prayers and having the heart of not giving up hence the stability and development of the Sacco is realized. Member have been working extra hard to ensure they do not “urinate on the fire lit by their fellow members”. Homisiki was registered on 26th February 2014 under the co-operative Act of Kenya with registered office in Kisumu being the capital city and the central point of Luo Nyanza. Primary Homisiki has been drawing its membership from both social media i.e. Tweeter, Skype, Google +, Face book among others and also physically form the local grounds after doing an introductory to the targeted population , The Sacco mobilizes savings and deposits and extends credit to its members thereby , empowering them economically and socially.
OBJECTIVES
To promote thrift among its members by affording them an opportunity for accumulating their savings and create thereby a source of funds from which loans can be made to them exclusively for provident and productive purposes at fair and reasonable rates of interest hence enabling them to use and control their money for their mutual benefits. - To ensure personal growth through introduction of news products and services that will promote economic base of the members. - To ensure progress of members and society through continuous educational programs on paper use of credit, reduction of poverty, human dignity and co-operation. - Promote savings and loaning for its members in small and medium business owners in pri-urban areas - To enhance members’ individual socio- economic status by way of affording them credit at a fair and reasonable rates.
