Thamani DT Sacco society Ltd, formerly Nithi Tea Growers Sacco Ltd is a co-operative society registered under co-operative Act CAP 12 of 1997 with a mandate for mobilization of member’s savings and availing credit to them. The society operated back office activity until September 2000 when it opened front office (FOSA) service, and it changed the common bond of being a tea grower in order to allow people from other agricultural undertakings and business enterprises to become members. The Sacco was licensed by SASRA in October 2011 as a deposit taking society. Area of Operation
The Sacco has offices at Chogoria town, Marima town, Kibugua town, Cheera market and Kathwana Market. Its Head quarters is at Chuka and a mobile office at Chuka town center. Ownership and Governance
Thamani sacco is owned by members who have invested shares. It is governed by a well constituted Board of Directors who are non executive in operations and has put a skillful management team that drives the strategy implementation on daily basis.

SACCO FUNDS BELONG TO MEMBERS NOT THE GOVERNMENT

There is no legal framework that allows the government to compel SACCOs to finance government projects or infrastructure development.

SACCOs have always had the freedom to invest in instruments such as Treasury Bills, Treasury Bonds, and other approved investment opportunities as part of their financial strategies. These decisions are made independently by each SACCO based on members’ interests.

SACCOs are member-owned institutions, not government entities. The power to decide where and how members’ funds are invested rests with the SACCO’s governance structures and members.

Any investment decision must protect and create value for the members who own the SACCO.
