Updated 17/07/26 with link to the paper.

The Minister has approved changes to the annual review process for student grants.

From the next review cycle, the point in the year used to review maintenance grant rates will be brought forward. This will allow more time to implement any changes before the student finance application window opens on 1 January.

The method used to review income thresholds that determine grant eligibility will also be updated to reflect actual changes in earnings, rather than forecasts.

These changes are intended to streamline administration and enable grant award letters to be issued earlier, giving students more time to plan and budget.

The updated approach will apply to the calculation of grants awarded for the 2027/28 academic year and beyond.
