my family of 5 lived off $28,000 a year in NYC, and as the eldest daughter of mexican immigrants, i watched my parents sacrifice so much to give us opportunities they never had 🥹

i almost didn't go to college. i graduated with debt. i worked multiple jobs. i got rejected over and over again. and i cried A LOT along the way.

but i also met incredible people who believed in me, opened doors for me, and helped me get to where i am today.

at 30, i've accomplished things little viv could've never imagined... tbh i still can't believe this is my life ❤️

i share my story not because i believe hard work alone can overcome poverty because that's not true. systemic barriers are real, and so is privilege!!

but i do hope it inspires you to keep going, even when life feels really fu*king unfair

I waited YEARS to call myself a Mexican rich girl 🇲🇽

I waited until my bank account “proved” it. until society saw me as one. but the truth is, I was a Mexican rich girl long before I had $250K to my name 🤍 I just didn’t know it yet.

we didn’t have much. there were eviction letters I had to translate, year long hospital stays, a bankruptcy, and a college acceptance we couldn’t afford. but my parents always made sure we had a roof over our heads, food on the table, and so much love.

growing up, I thought being rich meant having money. now that I’ve built more wealth than I ever imagined, I’m realizing that some of the most valuable things in life can’t be bought.

I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but I’m even prouder of where I come FROM. and if there’s one thing I hope you take away from my story, it’s that ✨your circumstances don’t have to determine your future✨
