Pettenasco is perfect for nature lovers: Chestnut forests begin by the house; the waterfalls of the river Pescone (where you can take a refreshing bath in one of the many basins and relax on the warm rocks) and the lake (with several public areas) are easily accessible on foot.
It is an ideal starting point for numerous hikes - for example to the next mountain Mottarone, from where you can enjoy an impressive view of the mountain range of the Alps and sometimes down to the Ligurian mountains.
Poggio Luneglio 8 is part of a bigger terraced house residential area on the southwesterly slope with beautiful view over the lake. The owner is using the first floor sporadically.
Booking
If the apartment is still free during the requested period, we will send you a confirmation of your booking. For the definite reservation we ask the full payment in advance (we will tell you our bank account with our confirmation)
The apartment will be ready by 4pm on your arrival day, and we ask you to leave it by 12am on your departure day, so it can be cleaned and prepared for the next guests.

Swimming in the lake or diving in a basin next to the waterfalls? Hiking to a mountaintop offering an incredible view of the mountain range of the Alps or rather going for a walk along the lake? Bicycling to the weekly market in Omegna or taking a ride to some wine cellars of the area?
Picking chestnuts or going mushrooming? Taking a boat trip to the island San Giulio or rowing around the island? Strolling in the splendid gardens of Villa Taranto or rather visiting the Borromeic Islands? Better sailing, playing tennis or horseback riding?

Hike to the Monte Barro
A short hike to the cross on Monte Barro offers you a good occasion to get a general idea of the area. There is no nicer view of the lake and the island than from here, and the hike across the chestnut forests gives you a first impression of the luxuriant vegetation.
Orta San Giulio
The picturesque medieval small town of Orta is the only locality in the area that is heavily frequented by tourists. Nevertheless, you'll find it fascinating to explore the generous central square facing the island San Giulio, the narrow alleys with many small shops, as well as the Sacro Monte with 20 chapels dedicated to Saint Francis.
The normal ship cruising on the lake runs to the island San Giulio several times a day. There are also many taxi boats available. However, the view of the island from the outside is much nicer than from the inside (narrow street with high walls). We suggest renting a rowing boat and rowing around the island!
Mottarone
Our closest mountain, Mottarone, offers on clear days a breathtaking view of the mountain range of the Alps, the lakes of Northern Italy and sometimes down to the Ligurian mountains.
You can drive up to the top, or you can hike, or you can take the cable car from Stresa. Next to the intermediate stop of the cable car, there is the Giardino Alpinia, an exceptional botanical garden with rare alpine plants.
Arriving
Pettenasco is situated approx. at the same degree of latitude as the most southern part of Switzerland on the route Brig-Domodossola-Novara-Genova.
The next airport is Milano Malpensa. But public transportation from Malpensa to the Lake of Orta is very poor, so the best bet is to take a taxi at the airport (about 1 hour's drive).
By car
From North: cross pass of Simplon, pass Domodossola and get off the fast road at Gravellona Toce; head towards Lake of Orta, via Omegna to Pettenasco. Or cross the Alps via Gotthard - or San Bernardino tunnel, pass Bellinzona and Locarno, then drive along the Lago Maggiore till Intra-Pallanza (Verbania), then head to Gravellona Toce, and via Omegna to Pettenasco.
In Pettenasco, turn towards the hill right at the church/gas station (direction Pratolungo).
From South: Take highway A 26 (Laghi, Sempione) from Milano and along the Lago Maggiore till Gravellona Toce, then via Omegna to Pettenasco; or via Novara to Orta and then Pettenasco.
By train
From North and West Europe, to Basel or Zurich, then via Bern - Brig to Domodossola. Here you change to the local train direction Novara; get off in Pettenasco (Domodossola - Pettenasco = 1 hour)
From East and South Europe, via Milano or Torino to Novara. Here you change to the local train direction Domodossola; get off in Pettenasco (Novara - Pettenasco = 1 hour)
From the train station Pettenasco, Poggio Luneglio can be reached in about a 10 min. walk
If you prefer to take a taxi, you should get off the train in Omegna or Orta.
