One of the reasons Africa, especially Nigeria, struggles to develop is the mindset that everyone must be “on top.” There is too much discrimination, jealousy, hatred, the pressure to live a fake lifestyle, crime, and an unhealthy obsession with status and wealth.

I have lived in South Asia and Europe, and one thing I have noticed is that people are generally treated more equally. You often cannot tell who is rich or poor simply by looking at them. There is also a stronger sense of social support—when people are struggling financially, the government has systems in place to help them.

Development is not only about roads, buildings, or technology. It is also about changing our mindset, creating equal opportunities, supporting vulnerable people, respecting one another, and building a society where success is not measured by how much you can show off.

Until we begin to address these attitudes and build a culture based on equality, accountability, and genuine progress, development will remain a challenge.

But honestly, after decades of hardship, maybe we should be asking: When will leadership take responsibility? 🇳🇬😡

Imagine using your religious clothing to publicly disgrace yourself while running away from the religious problems in your own country, only to come to another country and try to force the same religion on people who welcomed you. Respect the country you live in, and respect people’s freedom to choose their own beliefs.

Our Sons Need Protection Too.

Gone are the days when we thought only girls could be victims of sexual abuse. Boys can be victims too—and sadly, sometimes the danger can be closer to home than we imagine.

A police officer recently recounted the disturbing case of a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly groomed and sexually exploited by an adult he trusted while learning a trade at a barbing salon.

This is a wake-up call for parents, guardians, teachers, and the entire community. We must listen to our children, pay attention to who has access to them, and create safe spaces where they can speak without fear or shame.

Child sexual abuse is a crime, regardless of the victim’s gender. Silence protects perpetrators, not children.

Our boys need our voices, our vigilance, and our protection. Let’s stop keeping mute.
