🇧🇷🌧️ Persistent heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in Brazil’s southern state of Rio Grande do Sul since mid-June 2025.

According to the state's Civil Defense, 5 casualties have been confirmed. More than 10,000 people have been evacuated, with 155 municipalities reporting damage. The water level of the Jacuí River in Cachoeira do Sul reached over 26 metres, surpassing the average level of 18 metres. These floods come just one year after Rio Grande do Sul was affected by its most severe floods on record.

This image shows a bloom of a toxin producing diatom (Pseudo-nitzschia) off the California coast, captured by Sentinel-3's OLCI instrument on April 6. Over the past month, this harmful algal bloom has been affecting marine ecosystems, with serious impacts on wildlife.

Monitoring these blooms is critical, and satellite observations are crucial to help monitor ocean health and coastal communities.

Laguna Colorada, located in Bolivia’s Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve 🇧🇴, is a shallow salt lake famous for its bright colours, which can appear red 🔴, yellow 🟡, green 🟢, or other hues based on the presence of algae and minerals in its waters.

Situated at an altitude of around 4,300 metres, the lake spans approximately 60 square kilometres. It is a key habitat for the endangered James’s flamingo, which gather here in large numbers, drawn by the lake’s food supply.

Sisak, located in central Croatia 🇭🇷 in the Sisak-Moslavina County, is known for its blend of Roman heritage and industrial legacy.

The city, home to one of Croatia’s oldest settlements, has been inhabited since the Iron Age and features ancient ruins, a star-shaped fortress, and 19th-century industrial architecture.

Situated at the confluence of the Kupa, Sava, and Odra rivers, Sisak is visible in this acquired by one of the Copernicus satellites on 19 March 2025.
