The Analytica Composite Leading Indicator (CLI) for Iceland fell in April. Also, the values for the past months were revised downwards. The decline is broad based. However, it must be noted that none of the CLI components carry a special insight as regards the potential impact of the full solar eclipse via an increase in tourism at least not obviously now. Five out of six CLI components fall on the previous month. The greatest negative impact is due to a fall in consumer confidence as well as negative impact from a contraction in the volume of merchandise imports and a fall in domestic debit card turnover. International political developments remain as a source of considerable uncertainty no less than before as does uncertainty regarding global economic developments.

Í ljósi tíðinda af áföllum í útflutningsgreinum að undanfarið virðist óhætt að túlka hagvísinn með afgerandi hætti til lækkunar. Áhrifa gjaldþrots flugfélagsins Play gætir líkast til í tölunum. Veruleg fækkun erlendra ferðamanna frá Evrópu í október styður það sjónarmið. Fjórir af s*x undirliðum lækka frá í september. Þó virðist enn ótímabært að túlka hagvísinn með afgerandi hætti til lækkunar. Áhrifa gjaldþrots flugfélagsins Play undir lok september gætir tæplega í tölunum.

Þetta gæti virst á skjön við þróun hagvísisins en hafa þarf í huga tímamun á þróun hagvísisins og landsframleiðslu. Fjórir af s*x undirliðum hækka frá í júlí. Aukning aflamagns og debetkortaveltu hefur mest að segja. Hins vegar virðist minni vöxtur í vöruinnflutningi og komur ferðamanna um Keflavíkurflugvöll í takt við langtímaleitni. According to Statistics Iceland, GDP contracted in the second quarter on the previous quarter. This may seem out of line with the CLI but appears within the normal lead time window for the CLI.
