Private bank fined Rs 5 lakh by consumer panel for disbursing online loan without signature
Synopsis
A private bank in Uttar Pradesh has been fined Rs 5.2 lakh by the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission for disbursing a personal loan of Rs 7 lakh to a victim of online fraud. The customer had complained, but the bank continued to debit installments from her account. The bank was also required to pay a further Rs 25,000 for harassing the woman.
he Uttar Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has imposed a hefty fine of Rs 5.2 lakh on a private bank for disbursing a personal loan of Rs 7 lakh to a customer who fell victim to an online fraud. Despite the customer's complaint, the bank continued to debit installments from her account, leading to further penalties.

Nagpur: The Supreme Court recently set aside a ₹6.11 lakh compensation awarded by the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) in a 2004 case involving a woman who alleged medical negligence after losing her speech and ability to breathe without a respirator.

A cancer patient from Bengaluru has won ₹6.7 lakh after he sued Religare Insurance company for denying him medical insurance for his treatment, according to a report by the Hindustan Times, Livemint's sister publication.
As per the Daily, the 60-year-cancer patient was denied medical insurance for his cancer treatment because he had diabetes and hypertension that he did not disclose before taking the policy.

Consumer Forum Asks SBI To Return Rs5.88 Lakh Lost in Cyber Fraud by a Customer
Consumer dispute redressal commission, Wardha, has directed the State Bank of India (SBI) to remit Rs5.88 lakh after it was found that the Bank failed to address the complaint filed by the customer against a cyber-fraudster.
The commission also ordered the Bank to pay Rs30,000 towards physical and mental harassment and Rs20,000 towards litigation charges. Satish Lawhale, the complainant in the case, was represented by noted counsel Dr Mahendra Limaye, who regularly appears in consumer matters.

Insurance firm penalized for rejecting dengue treatment claim
The forum observed that the complainant was diagnosed and treated for dengue and a decline in platelets. “It has no connection with hypertension at all. It is a parasite infection infused with the bite of a dengue mosquito.”

The consumer forum has directed a private insurance firm to pay a compensation of Rs 60,000, including Rs 10,000 litigation charges, for rejecting the claim of a dengue survivor in 2016 because he was a patient of hypertension and that he had concealed the matter.
Kajheri resident Vinod Kumar had undergone treatment at a private hospital from October 29 to November 1, 2016. After getting well, he opted for the claim from his health policy for an expense of Rs 73,196, but it was rejected by HDFC ERGO General Insurance. The forum, however, holding that “hypertension has no concern with the dengue disease”, directed the HDFC ERGO General Insurance to pay the claim money with 9 percent interest from the date of rejection, besides Rs 60,000.

Thane: Consumer Commissioner Directs Bank To Waive ₹2 Lakh Fraudulent Credit Card Transaction.
The commissioner found that the bank did not investigate the fraudulent transaction and harassed the customer for payments.
The Thane Additional District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commissioner has directed RBL bank to waive the overdue credit card amount ₹2,05,955 along with interest as the transaction was fraudulent and the bank failed to provide safety and security to the customer or holder of the credit card.
The commission also directed to pay a compensation of ₹10,000 for the consumer’s mental anguish and an additional ₹10,000, for the cost of the litigation.
Advocate Vivek Sharma represented a credit card holder, a senior citizen Subrata Saha, a resident of Belapur in Navi Mumbai. On November 24, 2021, the complainant discovered unauthorized transactions under the name of Payu Pay Gurgaon.
