Kashmir traders body flays Traffic Police for resorting to ‘dictatorial’ approach

The Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation on Tuesday flayed the Traffic Police of its failure for smooth regulation of vehicular movement in the city centre as well as in Old City Srinagar and resorting to dictatorial policies to defend its failure in traffic regulation

In a statement, a spokesperson of KTMF said that Traffic police has launched a drive of towing away of vehicles which is hampering the business activities in the city centre. “Instead of launching a public awareness & public friendly approach they are resorting to highhandedness.”
Scene of traffic jam in Srinagar

KTMF Sr Vice President Manzoor Ahmad Bhat accused Traffic police of neglecting Downtown Srinagar as there is zero deployment of Traffic police cops in the area. “People from across Kashmir Valley visit Old City as it houses various sacred shrines and holy places and thus it becomes difficult for people to park their vehicles on either sides of roads.”

Government has failed to designate paid parking lots in Downtown as their is not a single parking lot available, he said. “The traffic department needs to discuss the issue with the stakeholders to streamline the process of traffic regulation in Srinagar,” he concluded.
