Despite repeated demands from farmers, the crop insurance scheme in J&K has yet to be implemented effectively at the ground level. Apple growers in Kashmir remain particularly vulnerable to various risks such as hailstorms, untimely rains, snowfall, pest attacks, and diseases, highlighting the need for comprehensive and practical insurance coverage for orchardists.

KEY ASPECTS OF CHANDLER WALNUT VARIETY:
Cultivation & Yield:Plants are moderately vigorous, semi-upright, and highly productive, with a 34-36 mm caliber and 80-90% side-branch fertility. They are often paired with pollinators like Fernette or Franquette.
Harvesting: Harvested in late September to October.
Market Position: Considered superior for kernel production due to their light color and high kernel percentage (around 49%).
Production Hubs: Significant nurseries and orchards are located in Bandırma (Balıkesir) and Çanakkale.
Rival Varieties: While Chandler is dominant, Turkish producers also cultivate regional varieties such as 'Maraş-18'.
Chandler walnut trees in Turkey are often sold as saplings with open roots in November/April or with specialized packaging (scuba) year-round. They are highly sought after by agricultural investors due to their, on average, 40-50 kg annual yield per mature tree.

Watch & learn .The optimal temperature for successful walnut grafting is approximately 27°C(80°F) which promotes rapid callus formation within about 5 days. Temperatures below 20°C(68°) generally prevents callous formation, while high humidity and consistent, warm conditions (20–30°C) are crucial for success.
