Don't Resign on Optimism; Resign on Evidence:
Most ambitious hard working professionals are not short on effort. They are short on a structure that tells them exactly where they stand, what has actually changed around them, and what their next move is.
You are 40+. You just lost your job or think that you may get fired anytime. The instinct is to update the resume and start giving interviews. That instinct is not wrong. It is just incomplete.
Because at this age, the real risk is not a few months without a salary. Real risk is spending your next 15 years exactly like your last 15 years. Real risk is trading your best years for someone else's balance sheet, with nothing of your own.
Here is the alternative. Don't quit and hope. Build a venture in parallel with a job, over three years:
Year 1: Plan and Validate the idea, land your first five clients outside your network
Year 2: Systematize delivery, build inbound demand, hit 25-30% of your salary in monthly revenue
Year 3: Scale, build a 6-9 month runway, hit full salary parity for two straight quarters.
Then and only then leave your job.
One rule makes this work, don't resign on optimism, resign on evidence. That way, leaving your job will be a financial decision, not an emotional one. A second inning is not just about starting over. It is about finally building something that is yours.
If you are 40+ and feeling uncertain or suffering from 4 a.m. fear syndrome, then get in touch with me for more details.
