For a span of three months, Gouri S Naik spent five to six hours digging a well herself. She has grown 150 areca, 15 coconut and some banana trees near her house. She did this in addition to her duties as a daily wage labourer. At the very end, she solicited the help of three other women to clear the dirt from the 60-foot deep well. Due to her efforts today, she owns a well with seven feet of water. She has earned the respect of those around her, who have taken to calling her ‘Lady Bhagiratha’.
