🚨 RBI TIGHTENS LIQUIDITY: CRR RULE CHANGED + ₹25,000 CRORE BOND SALE

After raising the repo rate by 25 basis points, the RBI is taking further steps aimed at draining excess liquidity from the banking system, according to the newspaper report.

🏦 What has changed?

🔹 Daily CRR requirement tightened: Banks will have to maintain at least 99% of the prescribed CRR requirement every day, up from the earlier 90%. The report says this becomes effective from the fortnight beginning 16 October 2026.

🔹 ₹25,000 crore OMO sale: RBI has also announced an Open Market Operation (OMO) sale of Government of India securities worth ₹25,000 crore on 13 October.

💰 Why does this matter?

Both measures can withdraw liquidity from the banking system. With banks required to keep more funds with RBI on a daily basis and RBI selling government securities, the amount of money readily available in the banking system could tighten.

📈 This could put upward pressure on short-term/overnight money-market rates and potentially make the transmission of the recent repo-rate hike faster.

👥 WHAT COULD IT MEAN FOR YOU?

🏠 Borrowers: Lending rates could face further upward pressure, particularly for floating-rate loans linked to external benchmarks.

💵 Depositors: Banks competing for deposits to meet liquidity requirements could potentially make deposit/FD rates more attractive, although individual banks will decide their own rates.

🏦 Bank employees: Liquidity and deposit mobilisation could become increasingly important as banks manage tighter daily reserve requirements.

⚠️ These measures do not automatically mean that every bank will immediately increase loan or FD rates. The actual impact will depend on each bank's liquidity position and pricing decisions.

🚨 5-DAY BANKING STRUGGLE: BOIOA DELHI UNIT ANNOUNCES ₹2,600 “TOKEN OF GRATITUDE” FOR MEMBERS

The Bank of India Officers’ Association (BOIOA), Delhi Unit has issued a circular dated 8 October 2026 following the deferment of the UFBU strike connected with the demand for 5-Day Banking and other pending issues.

In a significant decision, the Executive Committee of BOIOA Delhi Unit has announced a ₹2,600 token of gratitude for each eligible member, excluding office bearers of the Delhi Unit, who stood firmly with the organisation during the struggle.

According to the circular, the amount is being given as a gesture of appreciation for members’ support, commitment, discipline and solidarity during the agitation.

The association has also made its position clear:

“The strike may have been deferred, but our struggle and spirit remain undeterred.”

BOIOA Delhi Unit says it will continue raising members’ interests, rights and dignity before the concerned authorities and appropriate forums.
