The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a major agitation programme over key issues concerning bank employees and officers. The demands include implementation of 5-Day Banking, withdrawal/abeyance of the Government’s PLI scheme for Scale IV and above, modification of the PLI scheme through bilateral discussions, and resolution of pending residual issues.
📢 STRIKE DATES ANNOUNCED

🔴 28, 29 & 30 September 2026 — 3-Day All India Strike
🚨 From 26 October 2026 — Indefinite Strike
These dates form part of a wider agitation programme that also includes demonstrations, badge/black-badge campaigns, dharnas and other protest actions.
🗓️ WHAT ABOUT 5-DAY BANKING?
According to the UFBU circular, IBA agreed under the 12th Bipartite Settlement/9th Joint Note signed on 8 March 2024 to introduce 5-Day Banking by increasing daily working hours by 40 minutes from Monday to Friday, and the proposal was recommended to the Government. UFBU says the matter remains pending.
💰 PLI DISPUTE CONTINUES
UFBU has opposed the separate PLI framework for Scale IV and above, under which incentive can be linked to individual performance and go up to 365 days of Basic Pay, while employees and officers up to Scale III would receive a maximum of 15 days Basic Pay + DA.
Other pending demands highlighted include pension updation/improvement, uniform DA formula for pensioners and an option for NPS employees to switch to OPS.
