"A couple of months ago, I was at the Poona Club, gazing at the cricket ground from the terrace above. A whimsical idea struck me, and I said to my partner, Gaurav, “We should get a cricket team!” After a brief discussion, we moved on, thinking it was just a passing thought.
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, a phone call changed everything. An opportunity to own a team in the 10th edition of The Poona Club Premier League 2024 arose, and I had a mere 2 minutes to decide. Without hesitation, I said yes! Little did I know, I'd become the first woman to own a cricket team at the Club.
With 24 hours to create a team name, design a logo, and choose players for the auction, the pressure was on. Overnight, VNN Wolves came to life, and the auction experience was a thrilling challenge of bidding strategies and financial acumen.
The league unfolded over an intense week, with evenings spent at the Club after work. Despite the exhaustion, the experience was incredibly exhilarating. While VNN Wolves didn’t claim the top spot, we certainly held our ground, proving that in cricket, as in life, you win some and lose some.
The journey - from terrace musings to team ownership, navigating auctions, team dinners, practices, green room interviews, and matches - has etched itself as a collection of cherished memories in my heart. What started as a casual idea on a terrace culminated in an empowering adventure. Here’s to breaking barriers and creating lasting memories in unexpected places!"🏆🌟
