Mom was cleaning her cupboard today, and while going through some old things, I found this copy of Tarun Bharat dated 9th January 2008.

Normally, I would have just glanced at it and kept it asideโ€ฆ

But being from the investment field, one headline immediately caught my attention. ๐Ÿ˜„

I actually smiled looking at it. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Because back in 2008, 21,000 was such a BIG number that it made newspaper headlines.

And I could imagine what investors must have been thinking thenโ€ฆ

Sounds familiar even today, right?

Every time the market reaches a new high, we hear almost the same things.

But this old newspaper, lying quietly in Momโ€™s cupboard for all these years, gave me a beautiful reminder:

๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿญ,๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—Ÿ-๐—ง๐—œ๐— ๐—˜ ๐—›๐—œ๐—š๐—›.

And the journey between then and now wasn't smooth either.

We saw the Global Financial Crisis, market crashes, elections, Covid, wars, inflation, uncertaintyโ€ฆand countless predictions that the market was going to fall.

Still, the journey continued.

That's probably the biggest lesson this old newspaper gave me today

๐Ÿ“Š When Markets Test Your Patience, They Often Shape Your Wealth.

The attached data highlights an interesting observation from the past 25 years.

There have been multiple periods when the previous 2 years delivered almost zero or even negative returns. While every market cycle is unique, these phases have often been followed by periods of stronger performance.

The lesson isn't that history will repeat itself.

The lesson is that successful investing is built on discipline, patience, and a long-term perspective.

During uncertain times:
โœ… Continue your SIPs.
โœ… Stay focused on your financial goals.
โœ… Avoid making emotional investment decisions.
โœ… Trust the power of compounding.

Remember, the biggest opportunities often appear when market sentiment is at its weakest.

The bitter truth of shutting down SIP
And
Just a warning!

Happened in India last month:
55.23 lakh new SIP started
44.15 lakh SIP stopped

That means 76% stopage ratio.
And the biggest reason?
No market... No returns...
Rather Psychology (Psychology). Your mindset!

1. Short term vs long term
Short term = your feelings today.
Long term = your belief in the next 10 years.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Short Term- Your senses work, your senses make you uncomfortable
๐Ÿ‘‰ And the long term is built by your thoughts and your faith. Are you sure of the better future of India?
Short term suffering makes long term pleasure.

2. The nature of the market
The market never runs in a straight line.
Sometimes it stops, sometimes it falls, then it rises.
Yet investors want the journey to be smooth.
This hope breaks discipline.

We all know this -
But very few people really accept it.
Why?
๐Ÿ‘‰ Because the human tendency is to find pattern.

3. Psychological trap
The most dangerous reason to shut down SIP is not loss, but "no progress visible".
People invest for months and give up when portfolio looks red or flat after 12โ€“18 months.

This is the same as:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Farmer sow seeds and leave farming if germination does not come out immediately.
๐Ÿ‘‰ The gym goer should leave without seeing abs in three months.
๐Ÿ‘‰Students quit studying when an exam is bad.
๐Ÿ‘‰Giving up during struggle means stopping before success.

4. DIY investing trap
Most people run SIP themselves without advice.
But the truth is that you know yourself the least.
๐Ÿ‘‰Your Krishna's battlefield is needed in the most difficult times. Keep advisor

5. Returns vs Corpus
The truth is: SIP is not started for returns.
The real purpose of SIP is - to create corpus.

๐Ÿ‘‰Like your goal is to reach your destination while driving,
Not controlling speed every moment.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Corpus is the destination in investment.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Chasing Returns (Speed)?
Speed thrills but mostly kills !

Don't consider SIP for a bad year.
Look at what wealth she makes in 10-15 years.
This is the power of compounding.

๐Ÿ‘‰ SIP does not fail because the market failed.
๐Ÿ‘‰ SIP fails because investors quit in the middle.

Now ask yourself an honest question:
Your goal was Corpus before starting SIP...
Or inside were you just chasing returns?
