Meaning of “Deductibles or Excess” in Insurance Policy

In insurance, Deductibles/Excess means an amount that you have bear yourself in case of loss. This amount is not paid by the insurance company. For example :-

Loss amount Deductible/Excess Net payable
1) Rs. 1,00,000.00 Rs. 25,000.00 Rs. 75,000.00
2). Rs. 20,000.00 Rs. 25,000.00 NIL

The insurance company inserts deductible/excess in insurance policy so that the claim of small amount is not lodged by insured (Customer) as it incurs some administrative expense.

This Deductibles/Excess have to be paid out of pocket by the policy holder.
