"Zakat Guidance for Home Buyers and Builders"

1. If a buyer has already paid the advance or full price to a builder, but the property is not yet ready for handover, the money is with the builder. The buyer no longer possesses these funds, so the responsibility to pay zakat on that amount falls on the builder or seller.

2. If someone is holding money with the clear intention to purchase a house, and they already own a home or wish to buy a new house that is larger than their basic needs, then zakat is due on those funds.

3. If a person does not currently own a home and intends to buy one that meets only their basic requirement, and plans to purchase within the same year, then—according to some scholars—those funds are considered a necessity, and zakat does not need to be paid on them since they fulfill an essential need.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced new, simplified guidelines for banks to help families settle claims on accounts of deceased people in a fair and compassionate manner, which aligns with the ethical spirit of Shariah-compliant investing and financial planning.

Banks will no longer ask nominees or survivors for complex legal documents like Succession Certificates, Letters of Administration, Probates of Will, or any surety/bond, regardless of the account balance.

This move will reduce widespread hardship faced by families, making it easier and faster to access inherited wealth and fulfill family obligations, which is strongly supported by Shariah principles.

All banks are required to implement these new norms by March 31, 2026, ensuring consistency and transparency across institutions.

Excited to share a positive update for ethical and Shariah-minded investors!

The recent SEBI announcement prevents nominee registrations in minor MF folios—now, mutual fund proceeds will be paid directly to the minor upon attaining majority.

This forward-thinking move reflects the Islamic principle that fathers (and, in their absence, paternal grandfathers or a male relative) are natural guardians—not mothers—thereby fortifying asset protection and succession as per shariah law.

Under Indian law, majority is reached at 18, but Shariah recognizes this even earlier with the onset of puberty.

While banks sometimes permit self-operating accounts from age 10, mutual funds now require true majority, ensuring financial wisdom prevails.

As a Shariah-compliant advisor, I’m delighted to see these policies put family values, ethical succession, and transparency at the forefront.

Over time, things have slipped a little, but now, with the support of bank volunteers, we have a wonderful chance to bring back that same sparkle.This is not a moment of shame—it’s a moment of pride (👍 thumbs up for pride!) that others see the potential in our community and are ready to join hands with us. Swachh Bharat is about more than just cleaning; it’s about keeping our colony litter-free, segregating waste, planting more greenery, and maintaining the beautiful surroundings we are blessed with.We request all society members, clubs, and especially our office bearers to call for a meeting so that we can plan this drive together. I wanted to express how deeply meaningful the recent Baithak was for me. Sitting together with diverse minds, young and old, and listening to Shri Dinesh C. Sharma share the story of Hyderabad—from its regal Nizam heritage to its inspiring Urdu resilience and dynamic global journey—truly touched my heart. It’s rare to find a space that makes one reflect, learn, and feel proud all at once.

The warmth and inclusiveness of the gathering resonated with the old spirit of Hyderabad—where stories, experiences and wisdom are generously exchanged. It brought back vivid memories: my beloved teacher Prof Basheeruddin, the humble barber who once served the Nizam and later trimmed my hair, and the bustling baggis ferrying Gandipet water for the royal little ones at Fernandes Hospital. Sharing these anecdotes made me feel part of something greater—a living heritage.

I’m truly grateful to Subir Jha of BuckSpeaks who make Baithak happen. In a world where many of our youth drift into idle pastimes, it’s a blessing to find a circle where knowledge, culture, and aspiration are celebrated. Thank you for giving me, and so many others, this rare chance to reconnect with our roots and find new inspiration.
