Your OTP is not actually keeping you safe. RBI has published this report last year, Hereā€™s the part nobody puts in the news headlines. OTP-related fraud in India crossed 1,400 crore in just one year, a 5 times jump. SIM swap, OTP harvesting, fake delivery calls. The OTP system has a hole and fraudsters figured it out a while ago.

So in 2025, the RBI told the industry to move past OTPs and adopt biometric authentication instead. The first big platform to actually roll this out for card payments is Flipkart, with Axis Bank and PayU.

So this new rollout by Flipkart uses Face ID and fingerprint authentication for card payments. You hit pay. The phone scans your face. Done. No SMS. No retries.
