It gives us immense pleasure to announce and invite you to The 5th IIT Guwahati Parliamentary Debate, to be held from the 31st January - 3rd February, 2013, during IIT Guwahati’s Cultural Festival, Alcheringa 2013. Scheduled right after the NUJS parliamentary debate which ends on the 28th of January, 2013, it is a unique opportunity for you to explore the mystical North East and have a taste of everything that it has to offer. The pro-nites and shows at Alcheringa combined with the experienced adjudication core promises to make this a wholesome and fun debating experience.
FORMAT
3-on-3 Asians Format
IIT Guwahati’s Debate is an OPEN TOURNAMENT, Cross teams and Veteran Debaters are welcome to the tournament.
TEAM CAP
40 teams with a maximum of 5 teams per institution.
ACCOMMODATION
Will be provided to all outstation teams on a room-sharing basis.
ROUNDS
5 prelim rounds with a break to Quarter-Finals.

Registration deadline is 20th January, 2013. Registration fees is Rs1000. However, because of the limited slots, we urge you to register at the earliest.
TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT
Please mail us your train tickets at the earliest in order to initiate the reimbursement process. Reimbursement slab is as follows:
Team Size Two way reimbursement per person.
4 30%
5 to 8 35%
9 to 12 40%
12 and above 50%
• All reimbursements will be made with respect to sleeper class train
PRIZE MONEY
We have a prize money of Rs 1,00,000 for the parliamentary debate with additional gifts such as Ipods and smartphones. The winning team will receive Rs 50,000 in cash along with exclusive goodies
ADJUDICATION CORE
The IIT Guwahati Debate prides itself on being able to bring to you some of the best Indian adjudicators. These are people who are known to provide us with valuable feedback and insight, set perfect motions to debate on, and deliver the most intriguing workshops. The core comprises of :
1. Akshay BD: Akshay is a student of National Law University, Delhi. He has been Chief Adjudicator at NLIU Bhopal parliamentary debate, 2012, Wordz National Parliamentary Debate, 2012 as well as the IIT Guwahati National Parliamentary Debate, 2012.
He was winner of the NH 65 Parliamentary Debate, 2010. He has also been runner up at NH 65 National Parliamentary Debate, 2012, ICFAI 2012 and PEC 2012. He was also a finalist at the IIT Bombay Debate 2012.
2. Deep Rao Palepu: Currently the convener of NUJS Debating and Literary Society, he has been a finalist at the IIT Bombay National British Parliamentary Debate, 2012 and PEC, National Parliamentary Debate, 2012. He has adjudicated the grand-finals of the 5th NUJS Parliamentary debate, 2012. His other achievements include Quarter-Finalist Speaker at the R.V.C.E Tournament, 2011 and 2010, Winner at the IIT Guwahati National Parliamentary Debate 2010, Semi-Finalist speaker at the BITS Pilani Parliamentary Debate Tournament, 2011.
ADJUDICATION SUBSIDY
In line with our tradition of providing one of the best adjudication pools in the country, we'd like to invite applications for adjudicator subsidy. Our subsidies include lump sums ranging from 3000INR to 5000INR, based on your credentials. Also, adjudicators able to bring in more than 3 teams along with them will be given preference.
