मजनू का टीला पर अमानवीय हमला

दिल्ली के मजनू का टीला (सिविल लाइंस ज़ोन) में 28 मार्च 2025 को हमारे स्ट्रीट वेंडर साथियों संजय मिश्रा और विजय सिंह पर एमसीडी के कर्मचारियों और ट्रैफिक पुलिस की टीम ने जानलेवा हमला किया।

विजय सिंह का सिर फट गया, 5 से ज्यादा टांके आए हैं। संजय मिश्रा की नाक तोड़ दी गई, और उनका खून बहना बंद नहीं हो रहा। दोनों विक्रेताओं को बुरी तरह चोटें आई हैं, और वे लहूलुहान हो गए। यह घटना प्रशासन की बर्बरता और गरीबों के प्रति उनके असंवेदनशील रवैये को उजागर करती है।

क्या सड़क पर ईमानदारी से रोज़गार करने वालों का यही हक़ है?
क्या दिल्ली में स्ट्रीट वेंडरों को सिर्फ़ अत्याचार और हिंसा मिलेगी?

हम इस अमानवीय कृत्य की कड़ी निंदा करते हैं और दोषियों के खिलाफ सख्त कार्रवाई की मांग करते हैं!

🛍️ Street vendors are the low-hanging fruits in the battle against plastic

♟️ Raids, seizures, fines.. Why are small retailers the prime villains in our anti-plastic drive?

🚲 The hyperlocal nature of small retail in India reduces travel, making it more sustainable.

🛒 Unlike the vast supermarket chains commanding monopolies in the west or the e-commerce giants that promote hyper-consumerism, these small retailers and street vendors use much less plastic for packaging and are less capital intensive as establishments.

📦 However, their survival may be challenged by quick commerce and more liberalised FDI in retail that result in far more plastic usage.

♻️ We can't talk green and walk plastic in our policies.

Street Vendors: The Unsung Pillars of India’s Economy!

On the Day of Budget 1st February we a delegation of National Hawker Federation Delhi in the Leadership of Sandeep Verma & Mohit Valecha had the privilege of meeting Rahul Gandhi in Parliament, representing the voices of 4 crore+ street vendors and the millions more who depend on them—Farmers, Artisans, Transporters & Porters, and Daily Wage Workers. These vendors are not just sellers; they are the heartbeat of our cities and an economic powerhouse, fueling urban markets, sustaining livelihoods, and driving local economies.

Yet, despite their immense contribution, they are treated as if they don’t belong. They face Relentless Harassment, Extortion, and Eviction, while governments turn a blind eye.

Rahul ji’s words exposed this harsh reality:
"अमीरों की सरकार है - सड़क के ठेले और रेहड़ी-पटरी वालों का ये कहना है कि ये पार्टियां उन्हें कचरा समझती हैं। पुलिस द्वारा मारपीट, म्युनिसिपालिटी द्वारा छीनाझपटी करवा कर इनकी हर दिन जीविका छीनने की कोशिश की जाती है।"

But street vendors are not garbage—they are wealth creators, job generators, and an inseparable part of India’s economic fabric. Despite the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, their rights remain on paper, while their struggles are real and endless.

Rahul Gandhi ji has assured that he will fight to ensure the full implementation of the Street Vendors Act—not just as a law, but as a shield of dignity, security, and justice for every vendor in this country.

He Said;
उनकी ज़रूरत है कि UPA सरकार द्वारा पास किए Street Vendors Act 2014 को पूरी तरह लागू किया जाए जो इनके अधिकार और व्यापार की रक्षा करे - मैं यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए हर संघर्ष करने को तैयार हूं।"

This is not just a fight for street vendors—it’s a fight for economic justice, for the dignity of labor, and for the millions who build our cities from the ground up. The movement continues, stronger than ever!

Mumbai's street vendors are facing evictions despite the protections under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014. The Act requires surveys, vending zones, and certificates, but the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has removed over 337,000 vendors from 2022 to 2024, citing them as unauthorised. These actions contradict a 2014 Supreme Court order mandating that vendors cannot be evicted without a survey and vending certificate. The Bombay High Court upheld evictions to maintain public order while criticising the state government for failing to regulate hawkers. While schemes like PM SVANidhi have provided loans, delays in forming vending committees and granting licenses persist.
