If happiness is what you are seeking, just be yourself - call an old friend to dinner or smile at a passerby - as a study has found that people with outgoing behaviour are a happier lot across cultures.




Across the board, people reported more positive emotions in daily situations where they also felt or acted more extroverted.

"We are not the first to show that being more extroverted in daily behaviour can lead to more positive moods. However, we are probably the first to extend this finding to a variety of cultures," explained Timothy Church, a professor of counseling psychology at Washington State University.

So far, the researchers have studied people in eight different nations including Mexico, Malaysia and Australia.

The researchers used a “Big Five” (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism) personality trait survey for the study.

Similarities in personality traits were documented in people from different cultures although their expressions varied.

Realty firm Supertech Monday said it will move the Supreme Court in the next 7-10 days and challenge the Allahabad High Court's order to demolish two 40-storey towers in a Noida housing project.

The two towers -- Apex and Ceyane -- have a combined 857 apartments, of which about 600 flats were sold. The towers are part of Supertech's Emerald Court project.

"We are consulting with the senior lawyers. We will file the petition in the Supreme Court in the next 7-10 days," Supertech Chairman and Managing Director R K Arora said.

Arora reiterated the construction of the two towers was according to the approved plan and was authorised.

"We held a meeting with the affected buyers. Nobody wants refund of money. They only want their flats," he added.

Hundreds of affected buyers held protests against the company and the high court order yesterday.

The Noida Estate Flat Owners & Members Association (NEFOMA), set up during the land acquisition crisis in Noida Extension in 2011-12, is helping to organise the buyers together and prepare a future course of action.

"We will be able to chalk out our strategy in the next 4-5 days, whether to file a review petition in the Allahabad High Court or file a police complaint or to approach the apex court," NEFOMA President Annu Khan said.

Last week, a division bench comprising Justice V K Shukla and Justice Suneet Kumar ordered the demolition of the two towers erected in Sector 93-A of Noida as part of the Supertech Emerald Court Complex "within a period of four months." The complex comprises of residential premises and shopping establishments.

The court also ordered that money be refunded to all those who had invested in the two towers "with 14 percent interest compounded annually."

The judgement was passed while allowing a writ petition of the Emerald Court Owners Resident Welfare Association, which alleged that the approval and construction of the two towers was "in complete violation of the UP Apartment Acts."

The petitioner claimed the Noida Authority had given permission to raise the height of the two towers, which were earlier supposed to have only 24 floors, "without maintaining the mandatory distance of 16 metres) from an adjoining building block, making it "unsafe, apart from blocking air and light."

Singapore Airlines To Be Title Sponsor Of F1 Singapore GP

Singapore's national carrier Singapore Airlines said on Tuesday that it will be the new title sponsor of the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix. The sponsorship deal, of which no financial aspects were released, is for the next two years, with an option to renew. The former title sponsor of the race was telecommunications company SingTel, which sponsored the event from the inaugural race in 2008. "We are thrilled to be taking up the title sponsorship of one of the most exciting races on the F1 calendar, and we are especially pleased to be doing so in the lead-up to Singapore's 50th birthday next year," said Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Office of Singapore Airlines. The Singapore GP was the first night race in the sport, and also the first on a street circuit in Asia. In 2012, race organisers signed a contract with Formula One Management that would establish the Singapore race in the F1 calendar until at least 2017.
