When 100 Million Women Move From Credit to Capital: Budget 2026's Quiet Revolution
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman just delivered her 9th consecutive budget. But one shift deserves more attention than it's getting.
India is repositioning 100 million women: from micro-credit recipients to enterprise owners.

THE ALLOCATION:

→ ₹2 crore term loans for 5 lakh first-time women entrepreneurs
→ ₹10,000 crore SME Growth Fund providing equity support to Champion MSMEs
→ Credit guarantee ceiling doubled to ₹10 crore, unlocking ₹1.5 lakh crore in credit
→ 5 lakh credit cards for micro-enterprise working capital

THE INFRASTRUCTURE:

SHE-MARTS - Community retail outlets eliminating middlemen, creating direct market access
SHE-MARK BADGE - Priority access to credit and financial instruments
LAKHPATI DIDI 2.0 - Scaling to 3 crore women by 2027, backed by ₹5 lakh interest-free loans
Girls' Hostels - One in every district, removing barriers to education and economic participation

THE CONTEXT:

MSMEs already contribute 31.1% to GDP and drive 48.58% of India's exports across 7.47 crore enterprises. The gender budget has grown 37.5% to ₹4.49 lakh crore, spanning 49 ministries.

The target: 50% women workforce participation by 2050.

THE PARADIGM:

Before: Credit-linked livelihoods → Middlemen dependency → Subsistence income
After: Enterprise ownership → Market integration → Sustainable growth
