Solar roadways :
Everyone has power. No more power shortages, no more roaming power outages, no more need to burn coal (50% of greenhouse gases). Less need for fossil fuels and less dependency upon foreign oil. Much less pollution. How about this for a long term advantage: an electric road allows all-electric vehicles to recharge anywhere: rest stops, parking lots, etc. They would then have the same range as a gasoline-powered vehicle. Internal combustion engines would become obsolete. Our dependency on oil would come to an abrupt end.

It's time to upgrade our infrastructure - roads and power grid - to the 21st century

It’s time for another list of some of the most ridiculous inventions ever patented. If the patent office ever decided to create a blooper reel, these inventions could make the cut.

These are real inventions which the inventors actually thought would succeed – as opposed to ideas that never made it to the drawing board, such as a submarine with a sunroof, an inflatable dartboard or a helicopter with an ejector seat (think about it). Last year’s list included a pet petter, a Santa Claus detector and toilet seat landing lights.

NBCNews: A Swiss-made, solar-powered airplane called Solar Impulse took off Friday morning on the first leg of an aerial odyssey across America, beginning what’s expected to be the slowest flight from San Francisco to Phoenix with nary a drop of fuel.

Adventurer Bertrand Piccard piloted the craft, which has the wingspan of a jumbo jet but the weight of a typical passenger car, from Moffett Field into the Bay Area’s skies at 6:12 a.m. ET (9:12 a.m. ET) and headed south toward Arizona.
“Everything looking fine down here,” Mission Control told Piccard after takeoff.
