UFBU

UFBU United Forum for Bank Unions (UFBU); an Umbrella organization for all Bank Unions in India. Click to Here is the problem. Wait? There are just TOO MANY demands.

We fund UFBU, but UFBU doesn't know what employees want. They sure do but the thought process is entirely different. All UFBU leaders are very seniors and most bank employees are in the 30's or have just begun their careers. What is beneficial for the seniors might not be the best for new joinees. So there should be a way for us to communicate with UFBU on exactly what each one of us want. Have a

look at the charter of demands of UFBU for the current 10th Bipartite settlement. It's useless to have so many. The most important one's will unfortunately get diluted among the ocean of demands. The proof for this is many instalments of meetings which absolutely didn't yield any thing. Now imagine had UFBU concentrated on just a few things in ALL these instalments? The results could have been different. This page is not to abuse UFBU but a place where an educated banker will put forward his views on how UFBU should proceed in future.

Did you give levy to your association after the settlement?

I'll not be surprised if I know that you guys are as frustrated as me.

Our demand started from 30% and look where it is now. If IBA increases their offer by 0.5%, we come down by 3 or 4%. Is this acceptable? This aside; even after coming down to this level, we see USELESS circulars from UFBU leaders that they are fighting for a 'acceptable revision'.

Kya hai bhai acceptable???

If 15% (I doubt if the final figure will be even this much) is acceptable for you, then why put bogus demands of 30% and say bankers are facing severe stress??

You put out a calender of actions to be taken very well in advance and conveniently (or should I say shamelessly?) defer the program when actually no big decision has been taken (increasing 0.5% is just s**t) by IBA.

I am absolutely frustrated. I, as a young banker, don't like this union and association structure and I wish this Union'ism ends soon.

There's a scheduled meeting with IBA on 17th September. News is that some decisive outcome will come on that day; if not the final settlement itself. Fingers crossed.

Another day, another round. But no numerical progress. Next round possible in April 2014. What is lacking? TRANSPARENCY. Some people say UFBU leaders and IBA will do some settlement under table. Now no body knows whether that's true or not except for the people involved in the discussions. On the other hand, we also don't really know what is happening inside closed doors. So my question is, why aren't the discussions recorded? If someone really has nothing to hide, then there should be problem recording the conversations. Be transparent and shut everyone's mouth. Simple.

It's election time and UFBU should fully utilize this to get most benefits. I think someone should talk with BJP and say our demands. Remember the strength of Bank workforce in India? It can run up to a Crore if family members are taken into account.

Votes do matter.

Some of you may ask what can a Government do with regards to bank employees' demands? Well, remember Chidambarams' recent statement that 'All profits need not go to increase wages'? Now what if the future (possibly BJP) finance minister has a different view to this?

Next meeting of UFBU - IBA scheduled for 14 March 2014.
