Most exporters assume remittance delays happen at the bank.

In reality, many delays start much earlier — at the Invoice Value & Currency declaration in the Shipping Bill.

Here are 5 costly mistakes that block export payments:

1️⃣ FOB value doesn’t match the Commercial Invoice
Declaring CIF instead of FOB, incorrect freight inclusion, or rounding mismatches = customs queries.

2️⃣ Currency mismatch across documents
Invoice in USD. Shipping Bill in INR. Bank reporting somewhere else.
That’s a compliance red flag.

3️⃣ Wrong exchange rate logic
Using internal negotiated rates or approximate conversions instead of declared export currency creates reconciliation issues.

4️⃣ Declaring gross instead of realisable value
Commissions, discounts, third-party payments — if not structured properly, they impact incentives & FEMA compliance.

5️⃣ Invoice value not aligned with payment terms

DA (Documents Against Acceptance) isn’t just a payment term — it’s a credit decision.

In a DA transaction, the buyer gets the shipping documents (and access to goods) after accepting a Bill of Exchange.
But the actual payment? That comes later — 30, 60, or even 90 days down the line.
