“I nearly ended up washing dishes in a restaurant due to card issues."

As the sun set over the Arabian Sea, I sat savoring a delicious Goan dinner at a beachside restaurant. The evening had been perfect, but as I reached for my wallet to pay, my heart sank. I had only brought cash, forgetting that many places here preferred digital transactions. The restaurant didn't accept cash, and no ATMs were nearby. Feeling stranded, I started to panic.

Just then, a stranger from a nearby table noticed my distress. Without a moment's hesitation, he used his phone to pay my bill through his UPI app. He turned to me with a reassuring smile and said, "No worries, just download the CHEQ app and send me the amount whenever you can."A UPI service only for foreigners.

Now I don’t fear eating in any restaurant.I have stopped using card.My life is sorted now.I highly recommend giving Cheq UPI a try.

"No card, sir. Only cash or UPI"
"UPI ? What is that ?"

As I disembarked from my flight in India, excited for my first international business trip, my excitement was palpable. However, my excitement soon faced a hurdle I hadn't anticipated: the challenge of simply buying a meal.

Hungry and eager to taste the local cuisine, I approached several street food vendors, drawn by the delicious smells of samosas and biryani. But when I tried to pay with my credit card, I was turned away each time. "No card, sir. Only cash or UPI," I was repeatedly told.
"UPI ? What is that ?" I thought.

I found myself wandering the streets, bewildered and increasingly hungry. In my desperation, I turned to a group of local students, explaining my plight. They generously shared their snacks and introduced me to CheqUPI (YC S23), a digital payment system that they claimed was essential for travelers in India. One of them, Ankit, helped me download and set up the CheqUPI (YC S23) app on my phone, linking it to my bank account. He explained how it could be used to make quick and secure payments by scanning QR codes, a common practice at almost all vendors and shops across the city.

The next day, armed with CheqUPI (YC S23) on my phone, I ventured out with a new sense of confidence. The ease of use was astounding. I simply scanned QR codes to pay for a variety of delicious street foods, from spicy vada pav to sweet chai, experiencing the true flavors of India without any hassle. The app proved equally handy for paying for taxi rides, buying souvenirs, and even making donations at local temples.

"Autowallahs will loot you in India if you are dependant on cash"

I was very late for a very important client meeting one day.But the place was not very far from my stay.It was just 5km but that day I was not able to book any cabs due to some technical reason.So I went on roads and tried to get an auto.

I was shocked when they started quoting prices.One of them said 500 rupees. (for 5km 🥲)(way to loot a foreigner).I denied and started asking some other.One of them agreed on 250 (which was still very high but I was getting very late).

I hopped on and in 15 mins , I reached the meeting place.I took out my wallet and unfortunately I only had 500s denomination notes.I gave it to the autowallah but he said he doesn’t have any change.(He clearly had but he was openly lying seeing my urgency)

So I started asking random people for a change of 500 but no one was giving it to me.I started getting calls from my client who had already reached the meeting spot 15 mins ago.I had no choice.I just gave the auto wallah 500 rupees.

When I met the clients , he asked me why I was so late.I narrated my story.He smiled and told me about CheqUPI (YC S23).A UPI service only for foreigners.

Now I don’t need to hassle for any change.I have stopped using cash.My life is sorted now.I highly recommend giving CheqUPI (YC S23) a try.

"The night I was almost robbed in India 🥲"

I was walking to my hotel one fine evening in Jaipur when a couple of goons came close and took out their knives and asked to empty my wallet.

The twist was that a week ago I had discovered Cheq UPI because I was frustrated using cash and card for every small transactions and UPI seemed a very hassle-free method of transaction.

So after using Cheq UPI , I stopped keeping cash and card.That day was the same too.When robbers asked me for my wallet ,I happily gave it to them and the reaction when they found out my wallet was empty was hilarious.

Luckily amidst this fiasco, some good people started shouting and called the police.They escaped immediately and I was not robbed.

“How will I survive for 2 years in India !!!!”

Bonjour! I'm Sylvain Cardon, a 34-year-old professional from France, currently on a two-year business trip in India. I’ve been to India before, and payments, especially in remote areas, was a bit of a struggle. “UPI is the reason I visit India so regularly 😍”

Namaste! I am a Thai monk, who has journeyed to India many times, once as a student and now as a lecturer at Delhi University. Each visit has been a chapter in my life, but this one stands out, thanks to the digital revolution sweeping across the country.

As I wandered through the bustling streets, I marveled at a sight that would have been unimaginable during my PhD days. "UPI payments are available everywhere in India," I mused, "from a small shop on the side of the road to a 5-star hotel." The simplicity and ubiquity of digital transactions struck a chord with me.

Reflecting on the evolution of financial technology in India, I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder. "I came here to see the progress of financial technology in India, which is different from when I was in India while studying for a PhD and came back to India often before COVID-19 happened in the world," I shared with my fellow travelers.

The joy of experiencing a cashless day was something I had to express. "I feel happy," I confessed, "I have never been using cash from morning up to night time for today." It was a revelation that underscored the convenience of digital payments.

I envisioned a future where foreign tourists, like myself, could revel in the ease of a cashless lifestyle in India. "If foreign tourists know about your app and use it widely, I am sure foreign tourists will be happy with their cashless lifestyle in India," I predicted with a smile.
As I continue my journey, I am grateful for the digital advancements that have made my travels more seamless and enjoyable. The blend of ancient wisdom and modern technology in India is a testament to the country's dynamic spirit.

I am Derek and I recently embarked on a week-long adventure in India, eager to dive into the diverse food scene and soak up the rich culture.
