🚨 Business Owner? Has the War Affected Your Business?

There’s a lot of talk right now about compensation for businesses — but also a lot of confusion.

So here’s the simple truth 👇
👉 If your business income dropped, you may be entitled to compensation
👉 The plan includes support for salaries and fixed expenses
👉 Payments are expected to be relatively quick

This is where many people make a mistake:

❗ Don’t submit numbers you’re not 100% sure about
Because inaccurate or inflated claims can lead to fines and repayment demands later on.

Around the chagim, I often get asked the same question:

👉 “Do I need to pay my cleaner if they didn’t come because of the holiday?”

The answer? It’s not always straightforward. Most households in Israel employ someone — a cleaner, nanny or caregiver — and the rules can be confusing.

💡 Let’s simplify it: If your cleaner comes on a fixed day each week (for example, every Tuesday) and a chag falls on that day, in many cases, you are still expected to pay them.

Why? Because from their perspective, they’ve “lost” a regular working day due to the chag.

✔️ If they’ve worked for you for at least 3 months
✔️ The chag falls on their regular working day
✔️ They didn’t choose to cancel

➡️ Then they are usually entitled to be paid, even if they didn’t come.

Now, what about a nanny or caregiver? 👶👵 If they are paid monthly, holiday pay is usually already included. If they are paid hourly or per day, similar rules apply. But here’s where it gets more nuanced:

🔎 Ask yourself:
• Was this a scheduled working day?
• Was cover arranged?
• Was the absence agreed in advance?

✨ The key question is NOT: “Did they work?”
👉 It’s: “Was this supposed to be a regular working day?”

These payments may seem small, but over a year, especially with multiple chagim, they add up 💸 More importantly, getting it right helps avoid awkward conversations with someone who works in your home.

⚠️ Tip: You cannot deduct a vacation day if it’s a chag without their permission.

If you’re unsure whether you’re handling this correctly, it’s worth checking.

We can now pause and take a deep breath. 🌿

Pesach is over, the kitchen is (more or less) back to normal, and we are eating normally again. With the temporary ceasefire, for the first time in a while, things feel a little calmer. 🤍

And then… we check our bank accounts and credit card statements and the Pesach bills start coming in. 💳 If you’re feeling a bit of pressure, that’s completely normal after the chagim. Pesach is the most expensive chag, and this year, with the war situation, many of us are feeling the pinch — especially if there has been a reduction in income.

This is the perfect time to reset. 🔄

However, please don’t ignore your financial situation and hope it will sort itself out, because you know it won’t. Also, be realistic and don’t try to fix everything in one go.

Just take a few simple steps:
• Look at your accounts — even if it’s uncomfortable 👀
• Go back to tracking (10 minutes a week is enough) ⏱️
• Bring your food shopping back to a normal routine — and try to stick to your budget 🛒

That’s it. Sometimes it really is that simple to start saving money.
Getting back to structure already puts you back in control. 💪

📢 New Unemployment Benefits Updates (Israel) – What You Need to Know

If you or someone you know has been placed on unpaid leave (חל"ת), there are important updates that could make a real difference.

Here is a simple breakdown 👇
💼 Eligibility – now easier to qualify
✔️ You can qualify if you were on unpaid leave for just 10 days (instead of 30) but it has to be 10 consecutive days.
✔️ You only need 6 months of work out of the last 18 months (instead of 12)

✨ Special groups – even more flexibility
Some groups only need 3 months of work:
• Evacuees from recent operations
• People with disabilities receiving benefits
• Spouses of reservists (90+ days of service)
• Victims of terror / IDF injured (from Oct 7)
• Spouses of victims
• Recently discharged soldiers

📌 Important benefits to know
✔️ You can receive unemployment even if you didn’t use vacation days
✔️ No deduction of the first 5 days (full eligibility)
✔️ If you’re both self-employed & employed — eligibility is based on your salary as an employee
✔️ If you were previously on unemployment — you may still qualify again during this emergency period

⚠️ Important to note
• If your employer paid you during the unpaid leave — this will reduce or cancel eligibility
• Freelancers (guides, lecturers, artists, etc.) may also qualify — but must submit additional forms

👶 For women
If you gave birth while on unpaid leave, this period may count toward maternity leave eligibility.

📝 How to apply
If you have NOT yet applied:
1️⃣ Apply on the National Insurance website
2️⃣ Register with the Employment Service
3️⃣ Make sure your employer reports your unpaid leave correctly (Form 100)

If you already applied during the previous emergency period — you do not need to apply again, just re-register.

💡 My professional advice:
Even if you are unsure whether you qualify — check it. Many people assume they are not eligible and miss out on support they are entitled. Click on the Bituach Leumi web site https://www.btl.gov.il/English%20homepage/Pages/default.aspx and check your elegibility.
