אלמוג עשהאל שילוני נולד בירושלים וגדל בעיר מודיעין. התחנך על ערכי אהבת התורה, עם ישראל וארץ ישראל. התגייס ושירת כלוחם וכמפקד כיתה (מ"כ) בפלוגת מגני הנגב של "נצח יהודה". בעשרים שנותיו הדהים את סובביו בטוב ליבו הרחב, העזרה לזולת, הסיוע לקשישים ולחייליו. אלמוג חרט על דגלו את הדאגה לחיילים בודדים מפלוגתו וראה בכך שליחות. הוא הבין את הקושי ודאג לארח חיילים בודדים בחופשות סוף השבוע בבית המשפחה. בנוסף
, התאפיין בכך שדאג לכל צרכי חייליו, עד האחרון שבהם. חייליו כינו אותו "האבא של כולם".
בי"ז במר חשוון התשע"ה ה – 10 בנובמבר 2014, בשעה 12:10 בצהריים, בתחנת רכבת ההגנה בתל אביב, תקף מחבל פלסטיני, מאחור, את סמ"ר אלמוג עשהאל שילוני הי"ד, עם סכין קצבים ארוכה. למרות שהופתע, אלמוג נאבק עימו בכל כוחו והגן בגופו על נשקו עד לנשימתו האחרונה ובכך מנע פיגוע הרבה יותר גדול. אלמוג נפצע אנושות ומת מפצעיו בי"ח במר חשוון בשעה 21:00. על גבורתו ברגעיו האחרונים תוענק לו תעודת הערכה מיוחדת ממפקד חיל האוויר האלוף אמיר אשל.
מתוך האובדן הנורא של משפחתו , חבריו ומכריו, עלה רעיון של הקמת בית חם לחיילים בודדים בעיר מגוריו – מודיעין מכבים רעות. מקום שייתן בית חם ואוהב לחיילים בודדים קרביים בצה"ל, למשך כל שירותם הצבאי.
הבית הראשון נחנך בחודש מרץ 2015, ומאז נפתחו עוד שלושה בתים - אחד לחיילות בודדות ושלושה לחיילים בודדים. כל אחד מהחיילים הבודדים מלווה על ידי משפחה מהקהילה, המהווה להם משענת לכל אורך השירות הצבאי. לאחר שחרורם, מסייע בית אלמוג
לחיילים אלו להשתלב בחברה. בנוסף, בית אלמוג עוסק בהטמעת ערכי הנתינה לכלל, ערבות הדדית, אחריות וגבורה.
העמותה פועלת להקמת בית קבע לבית אלמוג שילוני, שבו יתגוררו 100 חיילות וחיילים בודדים ויהנו מגג, גב, כתף ולב רחב.

A warm home for lone soldiers in the city of Modiin Maccabim Reut
Your life was as that of a coral ("almog"). Under the waters and hidden from all eyes, you embraced and nurtured those around you. He was raised in the spirit of the Torah and Patriotism. In the army he was a fighter and squad commander in A company named Negev Defenders ("meganei hanegev") of Netzach Yehuda. All those who knew him were deeply impressed by his generosity, his helpfulness character and his assistance to the soldiers under his command. For Almog, helping out the lone soldiers in his company was all important. He understood the problems they faced and always invited them to his family home at weekends. He tried to provide for all the needs of every one of his soldiers, who nicknamed him "everyone's father". On the 17th of the month of Kheshvan 5775 (November 10th, 2014), at Hagana train station, Tel Avv, First Sergeant Almog Assael Shilony was assailed by a Palestinian terrorist, who came up from behind him wielding a long butcher's knife. Although he was taken by surprise, Almog fought the assailant valiantly and did not allow him to get hold of his gun, thereby preventing a large scale massacre of innocent passengers. He was mortally wounded and passed away on the dat after. For his courage during the last moments of his life, Almog was posthumously awarded a certificate of special gratitude by IDF air force commander General Amir Eshel. His mourning family, soldiers and acquaintances brought up the idea of a home for lone soldiers in Modiin Maccabim Reut, a place that would provide a warm and welcoming dorm for combat soldiers in IDF, for the duration of their army service. Each soldier is assigned to a family that provides him with care and support during his military service. Upon completion of military service, Almog Home helps these soldiers integrate into civilian society. In addition, Almog Home advances programs that foster altruism, caring for others, responsibility and bravery. The inauguration of the first Almog Shilony Home took place on Wednesday, 3/25/15. Since then, we have opened a total of three homes for male lone soldiers and one home for female lone soldiers in Modiin. We aim to open a home for 100 lone soldiers in the not too distant future.
