Budget 2024 announced a new landlord tax relief, available for the years 2024 to 2027. 💵

While the measure was unveiled in October 2023 landlords could not claim the relief until they filed their 2024 tax returns. For most this was at the end of 2025 so nearly two years after the initial announcement!

Due to the significant gap between the announcement of the landlord tax credit and the point at which it could be claimed many landlords may have forgotten about it. 🤦‍♂️

Landlords who didn’t claim the credit when submitting their 2024 tax return can still claim the relief now. In general, amendments can be made to tax returns up to four years after they have been filed. You can amend a return on ROS.

Revised guidance from Revenue on employee and self-employed contractor classification has once again brought the subcontractors versus employees issue into focus. This has prompted many businesses to review how they engage subcontractors in their day-to-day operations. 👷

Businesses should continue to review their use of subcontractors and where an individual is actually an employee they need to be reclassified as such and be included on the payroll system. 📋
