Let us tell you a story...
Across 23 countries surveyed the primary reason people don’t seek financial planning is the lack of awareness when it comes to financial planning’s value.
People don't know the difference between a ‘Financial Planner’ and a ‘Financial Adviser’. Here's 4 points that speak to the difference and value of a Financial Planner;
1. Financial Planners spend more time helping you identify what's important so you can make the best long term decisions.
2. A Planner will help you look at your overall situation instead of making decisions piecemeal.
3. Financial Planners don't focus on selling products for commission.
4. Financial Planners generally deal with a smaller number of clients so they can always keep in touch and make time for you when you need it.

If this type of advice appeals to you we'd love to talk.

Loads of comments about inflation and what it is or is about to do to us all! Here's our 2 cents....

Inflation is the silent but steady increase in prices over time. We take account of inflation in your Financial Plan. We want to make sure that your future cashflow will be such that you are able to do what you want, with whom you want, when you want for the years and decades ahead.

History has shown (and its the best guide we have) that investing in the big businesses of the world (equities) and sticking with that investment is the best way to grow your wealth and outpace inflation over time.

What do you think? When you last decided where to put your money to work where did you invest and why? Would love to see what you think...comment below

Investors may wonder whether stock returns will suffer if inflation keeps rising. History shows that stocks tend to outpace inflation over time.

Pension rules to become more straightforward.

The Finance Act 2021 is not yet law but details announced last week include a number of welcome changes to pension rules. Here’s what’s proposed;

· AMRFs (Approved Minimum Retirement Funds) to be abolished. These are accounts you are required to put a small amount into when you retire and there are restrictions as to how you can access AMRF money until age 75. An ARF (Approved Retirement Fund) is an account you can access as you like when you retire (subject to income tax). Existing AMRFs will automatically become ARFs.

· It will be easier to move pension savings from Company pensions to a PRSA (Personal Retirement Savings Account). If you were in a company pension for more than 15 years you could not move those funds to a PRSA. That 15-year rule is set to be abolished.

· Extra Death in Service option. In some situations a surviving spouse was required to purchase an annuity with some of the company pension left to them. Annuity rates are particularly poor. Those spouse’s will have the option of both ARF and Annuity in these situations.

Anything that makes pension accounts and pension rules easier is a good thing for us all.

Happy Friday everybody.....we're on a bit of a crusade!.....

We regularly post about the difference between real Financial Planning you should expect from a ‘Financial Planner’ compared to what most people up to now have experienced from a ‘Financial Adviser’...here's more on that..

A ‘Financial Planner’ helps you have what you want financially for the rest of your days.

A ‘Financial Adviser’ exits to help you buy a product.

We think there is huge value in Financial Planning and more people should know about it.

These are your 7 Rights as a client of a Financial Planner.

1. Integrity : You have the right to work with a Planner who values principles over personal gain.

2. Objectivity: You have the right to a Planner who will tell you what’s possible and also what’s not possible.

3. Fairness: You have the right to a Planner who clearly states their services, costs and the risks connected with any advice

4. Professionalism: Your Planner should only provide advice and recommendations in areas where they have expertise and authorisations. If your situation requires, your Planner should suggest other professionals who may help.

5. Competence: You have the right to expect your Planner to demonstrate the appropriate amount of knowledge, ongoing education and certification such as the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP) qualification.

6. Privacy: Your Planner should keep all your personal information in confidence only sharing the information with your consent and where your Plan requires it.

7. Diligence: You have the right to a Planner who will discuss your goals and what you should expect from a Planner before you engage them. Your Planner should apply rigour to your advice, ensure recommendations are efficiently implemented, and closely supervise any support staff working with you.

Why people don’t take advice from their Financial Advisor

(And what an ideal Financial Advisor looks like)

Research shows that a whopping 70% of Financial Planning recommendations are not implemented!

4 Reasons people don’t take advice:
1. They are just being sold a product
2. They are overloaded with solutions
3. Too much planning is for tomorrow and not today. We are wired to de-value cashflow we need in the future.
4. Not enough financial planning is tailored to help clients deal with the anxieties, worry, overconfidence and other emotions that drive most of our financial decisions

What an ideal Financial Advisor looks like:
1. Not a salesperson, judge, dictator, or professor. He/she is a Financial planning guide, a coach who listens first and alters the plan to match your priorities.
2. A planner who can address the financial rigour needed and the emotions of your decisions
3. He or she won’t overload you with reports and breaks down complexity into simple steps you understand in your own language
4. A planner who provides an ongoing service where the ultimate aim is to address your priorities and concerns, with your financial solutions merely the means to help achieve that.
5. Your ideal Financial Advisor/Planner expects less in the short term to achieve more with you in the long term

The ideal Financial Planner may not exist!!.....but those who work to consistently deliver this client centered service are the advisors we believe you should work with.

While we can hypothesize a number of singular reasons why most financial plans fail, it’s actually a confluence of (at least) four factors that have led to this failure, two that are systematic and two that are psychological.

If you're aged 45 or older, and you own a business....this is for you.

If you decided 2021 was the year you were going to put your financial house in order then take the first step this week.

Contact a Certified Financial Planner CFP (ideally us!). You'll get the following service not available from almost every other adviser around:

1. Clarity and certainty. The ability to see the impact of different decisions

2. Long term advice. We want to help clients for decades.

3. Guidance through turbulent times. Protecting you from decisions that could kill your Plans in tough times.

4. Technical knowledge to make sure you make the most of your situation.

5. Confidence to know you can do the things that matter most to you for the rest of your days.

6. Unbiased advice (transparent fees - not reliant on product commission)

Research conducted by Bronnie Ware, an Australian palliative care nurse, found that out of the top regrets of the dying, money did not feature in the top 5.

The things we will most likely regret relate to the way we lived, not the money we didn’t make or didn’t spend.

What are the things that are most important to you? What's stopping you for doing what you want, when you want, with who you want?

Sometimes, it’s easy to forget that money is a means to an end, not the end itself. Having a healthy interest in money is great, but focusing on it too much can distract you from its real purpose. One way to view money is as ‘fun vouchers’, if it can’t be enjoyed what’s the point. … Cont...

Happy Friday everyone. The following sentence has been going around in our heads all week. It sums up a lot of our advice in one line! Here it is...

Spend less than you earn and invest the difference!

Whatever you call success with money, ‘financial freedom’ or ’financial independence’ is guaranteed to be achieved if you consistently spend less than you earn and invest the difference.

We would love to help you identify what matters most to you, put a strategy in place that maximises your chances of having that life, and work with you through the years so you never run out of money no matter what happens.

Life is not a rehearsal. Coman Brady www.iqf.ie

What is the difference between a Financial Advisor and a Financial Planner ?

The key difference between a Financial Planner and a Financial Advisor is that a planner focuses on you and your goals, whereas an advisor normally focuses on your money and products that could be suitable for you.

As Financial Planners our goal is to help you through the years to have what you want, with who you want, for as long as you want. The picture below explains the 3 hats we wear and the value we try to add.
