Big change to Irish electricity bills are now in place.

From June 2026 a new Dynamic Price Tariff for electricity will be available to members, allowing prices to vary every half-hour based on wholesale market prices. This aims to help increase the use of renewables by shifting demand to periods of high generation. The tariff is best suited to customers with smart meters who have flexible usage.

Here's the key: the more electric your home is, through EV, heat pump, or solar, the more you stand to gain from cheaper off-peak rates. Greenify loans through your local credit union can help you make those upgrades a reality.

If you are interested in making green home or transport changes, contact us today by phone 05786 23336 or email [email protected] to find out more about the loan process.

Visit www.greenify.ie for more information.

Loans are subject to approval. Terms and conditions apply. If you do not meet the repayments on your loan, your account will go into arrears. This may affect your credit rating which may limit your ability to access credit in the future.

Portarlington Credit Union is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.

We are delighted to welcome Davinia Knight to our office today as she raises funds for Rainbows Ireland, a charity very close to her heart, as part of her Miss Universe Ireland Voice for Change campaign.

Rainbows Ireland is a national service that provides vital group support for children and young people throughout Ireland who are experiencing significant life changes following bereavement, parental separation, or divorce. Their work helps young people navigate difficult times and reminds them that they are not alone.

If you're passing by today, please pop into the office and show your support for Davinia and this fantastic cause. Every contribution, big or small, can make a real difference.

Wishing Davinia the very best of luck from everyone here at Portarlington Credit Union. πŸ’™βœ¨

After the warmest spell of the year so far, the return of rain this week changes grass management on farm. Teagasc Grass10's target pre-grazing yield remains 1,300–1,400kg DM/ha but after a dry spell followed by rain, covers can vary from paddock to paddock.

What to prioritise this week according:
1. Before making any grazing decisions, walk the farm and know it's current state
2. Prioritise controlling grass covers
3. Rest rain-softened paddocks this week; poaching now costs you weeks of grass growth
4. Recheck water troughs as dehydrated cows will be reflected in milk yield

As Teagasc Grass10 has consistently noted, every extra 1kg DM of grass eaten per cow per day over the season is worth €120/cow in additional profit. Managing this transition well protects that return.

If cashflow is a barrier to your farm decisions this week, whether that's contractor costs or silage, talk to Cultivate today.

Portarlington Credit Union was delighted to welcome Marie Fitzpatrick, Lisa Walker, Dermot Hynes, Eddie Fitzpatrick and Sinead Dunne to our office recently to collect a donation in support of Embrace.

Embrace provides invaluable support to farming families following a serious injury or sudden death and also promotes positive mental health within the farming community. Their work offers practical assistance, understanding and compassion to families during some of life's most difficult times.

To help raise funds for Embrace and a number of other local charities, a Barn Dance will take place on Friday, 20th June, from 7pm until late in Eneghan, Walsh Island.

We would like to wish the organisers every success with this wonderful community event and thank them for the important work they do in supporting local families and communities.
