Since then, the Credit Union philosophy of mutual self-help has proved very popular, and there are now over 530 Credit Unions affiliated to the Irish league of Credit Unions throughout the country.

In Ireland over 2.9 million members have recognized the value of credit unions, and have savings approaching โ‚ฌ11.9 billion with their credit unions. There are over 9,200 active volunteers involved in the movement, and over 3,500 people are employed (ILCU โ€“ Jan 2010).

September is the right time to check your heating system before you actually need it.

The first cold snap has a way of revealing problems that were invisible all summer. Three quick checks worth doing now:

โ€ข Bleed your radiators: cold at the top, warm at the bottom means trapped air.

Minister Heydon signalled this week that any change to slurry spreading dates would be a significant policy call, following pressure from farming organisations to extend the spreading window after the prolonged dry summer.

Many farms are now carrying more stored slurry than planned due to early housing and restricted grazing.

Another energy supplier is raising prices. Pinergy is increasing residential electricity prices by 7.6% from 14 September, equivalent to around โ‚ฌ169 a year for the average household.

It follows increases from Electric Ireland, PrePay Power, Yuno Energy and Flogas earlier in 2026.
The most effective response to rising bills isn't switching supplier, it's reducing how much energy your home needs in the first place. Insulation, a heat pump and solar panels can reduce your exposure to price increases outside your control.
