There was a large attendance on Monday night last for the Old Monaghan Society's first presentation of 2026 showcasing the reminiscences of Monaghan Town native Brendan Murray as he reflected on a lifetime working in the Provincial Newspaper Industry, most particularly the much lamented Northern Standard.

At the conclusion of the night Brendan named some of those captured in this 1939 image of employees of the Northern Standard that was then owned and managed by Harold Swan who resided at Tullyherim.

It would be great if anyone can fill in the blanks!!!

David is passionate about using advances in technology to help people, commenting; ‘People who live with chronic pain are often isolated, overwhelmed and feel stuck without any clear direction. My goal is to give people the support, understanding and structure needed to take back control of their symptoms. Through this app I want to make high quality pain education and guidance available to anyone who needs it’.

We think his passion to help others is well deserving of the title Hometown Hero 🙌🏻

And that’s not all, David is also a busy father of four, including baby twins! Talk about ambition and balance in action.
