September is the right time to check your heating system before you actually need it.

The first cold snap has a way of revealing problems that were invisible all summer.

Three quick checks worth doing now:

-Bleed your radiators: cold at the top, warm at the bottom means trapped air.
-Check your boiler pressure.
-Test your thermostat and timer and set them to your winter schedule for the colder weather.

With students across Ireland searching for accommodation ahead of the new college year, warnings have been issued about a rise in student accommodation scams.

If you’re looking for a room or property, remember:

🔎 See it before you pay it – Always view the property in person before handing over any money.

💶 Be wary of unusually cheap accommodation – If the price seems too good to be true, it could be a scam.

📱 Be cautious online – Scammers may use genuine-looking photos, fake profiles and convincing advertisements.

🏦 Never rush a payment – Be suspicious if you're pressured to transfer a deposit immediately to “secure” the property.

🔐 Protect your personal information – Never share your online banking details, passwords, PINs or security codes.

👨‍👩‍👧 Talk it through – If you're unsure, speak to a parent, guardian, friend or someone you trust before making a payment.

Remember: Take your time, do your checks and never let someone pressure you into paying.
