GOOD LUCK AT THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS, SALMA!

Midleton Credit Union are delighted to sponsor 14 year-old Salma Shijukumar from Carrigtwohill, who will be taking part in the Special Olympics Ireland Games in June. Salma will represent Munster in the 100m and 200m races in UCD, with the hope of being selected for the Irish team to travel to the World Games in Chile next year.

Salma is a member of the East Cork Abilities Special Olympics Club, based in Midleton, which provides a sporting outlet in athletics and floorball for children, teenagers and adults with intellectual disabilities. Salma will be supported in Dublin by her very proud family – her sister, Melanie (who is also a club member) and her parents Bindu and Shiju. On behalf of everyone at Midleton Credit Union – we wish Salma the best of luck – we’ll CU at the finish line!

MIDLETON CU THANKS VOLUNTEER JIM RONAYNE FOR OVER 16 YEARS OF SERVICE!

Earlier this year, after almost 17 years of service, Jim Ronayne stepped down from the board of directors of Midleton Credit Union and – in his own words – ‘officially retired.’

At the Midleton CU directors’ dinner, Jim was surprised (and, he admits, ‘temporarily speechless’) as the CU team made a presentation to him in recognition of his years of service. Regaining his voice, Jim said how thankful he was to everyone involved with Midleton Credit Union and that it was ‘my privilege and pleasure to have played a small part in its future.’

While Jim has now ‘officially retired’ he won’t be letting the grass grow under his feet – literally. ‘The back garden definitely needs some work,’ he grins. From board to bored? No chance!

Come and support Daffodil Day in aid of the Irish Cancer Society in Midleton and across East Cork today. The sun is shining so it’s the perfect excuse to get out in the fresh air!
