Minister Heydon signalled this week that any change to slurry spreading dates would be a significant policy call, following pressure from farming organisations to extend the spreading window after the prolonged dry summer.

Many farms are now carrying more stored slurry than planned due to early housing and restricted grazing.

If slurry capacity is an issue and slurry storage upgrades are in your plans, Cultivate can help fund them. Unsecured loans up to €100,000 and secured loans up to €300,000.

Call 1800 839 999 or visit www.Cultivate-CU.ie

Loans are subject to approval. Terms and conditions apply. If you do not meet the repayments on your loan, your account will go into arrears. This may affect your credit rating which may limit your ability to access credit in the future.Naomh Breandan Credit Union is Regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. Reg No. 135CU

If you are planning a home energy upgrade, know the current costs before you start.

SEAI's latest data, based on 23,412 upgrades completed in the first half of 2026, puts the median cost of a heat pump upgrade for a detached home at €17,000. Available grant support can reach €12,500.

That's a significant share covered before you spend your own money. Greenify can cover the rest. A green home loan through your local credit union, designed to sit alongside your SEAI grant.

Call 1800 911 797 or visit www.greenify.ie to find out more.

Loans are subject to approval. Terms and conditions apply. If you do not meet the repayments on your loan, your account will go into arrears. This may affect your credit rating which may limit your ability to access credit in the future.

The cheapest time to fix a cold house is when it's warm.

A mild week in August beats December for getting ahead of winter. Top up the attic insulation, seal draughts around doors and windows, and get the boiler serviced now, while it is dry and engineers are less booked.

Ready to go further with insulation or a heat pump?
