🐄 SCC on the rise this autumn 🐄

Heads up, dairy farmers; national average somatic cell count has climbed to 184,000 cells/ml, up from 160,000 cells/ml this time last year (ICBF live statistics, via the Irish Farmers Journal).

⚠️ Any cow consistently above 200,000 cells/ml should be flagged as a problem cow. Removing chronic cases sooner rather than later makes financial sense.

Mastitis and high SCC cost Irish dairy farmers millions every year in lost production and penalties — but investing in parlour hygiene pays back quickly.
