💙💚 Listowel is becoming an Autism Friendly Town!

Yesterday we hit the road to deliver Sensory Tool Kits to local businesses who have completed their Autism Friendly visual guide — and what a day it was!

A huge thank you to every business who signed up and is helping make Listowel a welcoming place for everyone in our community.

This initiative is proudly supported by Listowel Credit Union and Garveys as part of the Listowel Autism Friendly Town initiative.

🌞 The sun is finally out — but with warm weather after a wet May, flies are becoming a real concern for farmers this week!

Flies thrive in warm, wet conditions and can cause serious problems for your herd including summer mastitis. Now is the time to act before they become hard to control.

🔹 Check your herd regularly
🔹 Consider teat sealers as a preventative measure
🔹 Act early before numbers multiply

🌿 Is your grass getting ahead of you?

Teagasc Grass10 data shows over half of Irish farms are currently carrying covers above 1,500kg DM/ha — higher than the recommended 1,300–1,400kg DM/ha target. And it's costing farmers money.

Every extra 1kg DM of grass eaten per cow per day is worth €120/cow in additional profit — so getting on top of covers now really pays.

Teagasc recommends:

✅ Walk your farm weekly and use the PastureBase Ireland Grass Wedge
✅ Graze at the 2–3 leaf stage before stem develops
✅ Skip heavy paddocks and bale them when weather allows
✅ Target an average farm cover of 650kg DM/ha
✅ Reseed poor sward paddocks where needed

As Dr. Joe Patton, Teagasc Head of Dairy Knowledge Transfer, puts it — keep it simple: "Don't change too much. Get the right targets in place and stick to them."
