Wow, the weather we’re seeing recently has been unbelievable with no end in sight! 🌞

Give this caution from Limerick fire and rescue a read and just be mindful.

Enjoy the rays everyone, I know I will! 😎

As the dry spell continues, the Forest Fire Danger rating of 📛RED📛 is again extended. This warning is due to last until at least 12:00 on Friday July 6th. Given the medium term forecast is for little or no rain and a return to high temperatures it is likely it will be extended again on Friday.

At this stage there is very little moisture content left in most vegetation which raises the potential for fire. Remember:

✅ Dispose of cigarette butts safely

✅ Dispose of barbecue coals safely

❌ Do not light any fires of any kind near forests, bogs or dried out vegetation

✅ In the event of a fire, Call 999/112 straight away and get us out to deal with it 🚒👩🏻‍🚒👨🏻‍🚒

Just a heads up to those of you in Limerick regarding New Years firework display being cancelled.

THREAT OF FLOODING AND SEVERE WEATHER MEANS LIMERICK'S NEW YEAR'S EVE EXTRAVAGANZA MUST BE POSTPONED

Met Éireann has issued a YELLOW weather warning due to Storm Dylan with wind gusts up to 110 km per hour forecast until New Year’s Eve morning. High tides are predicted on Sunday morning at 4.29am and Sunday evening at 4.55pm.

As a result Limerick City and County Council, acting on health and safety advice, has instructed that flood barriers be erected immediately along Clancy Strand, O’Callaghan Strand and the boardwalks and will remain in place for New Year’s Eve.

Clancy Strand is the event site for the large scale projection mapping onto King John's Castle and unfortunately due to the risk of flooding this area is not available for use by the event management company.

It is with great regret that the extravaganza must be postponed and will now happen as part of Limerick’s St Patrick’s Festival 2018.

Met Eireann just issued red warning timings. Please don't make unnecessary journeys especially during the peak times in your areas.

Updated Red warning with timings.

Key Public Safety & Information Messages from the National Emergency Coordination Group on Severe Weather

• All unnecessary travel should be avoided on Monday, while the storm is passing.
• Don’t travel in Red level warning areas during the height of the storm unless absolutely necessary, and take due care if travelling in all other areas. Listen to local radio and national media broadcasts regarding the current weather situation.
• High seas predicted, the public are advised to stay away from coastal areas during this period.
• Very strong winds are predicted making driving conditions hazardous, especially for the more vulnerable road users, e.g., cyclists, pedestrians, motorcyclist and high sided vehicles. Road users should pay particular attention to the risk posed by fallen trees and flying debris.
• Given anticipated weather conditions, today should be a no bike day.
• Power outages are likely to occur in certain parts of the country, with contingency planning activated by the ESB. The ESB is advising the public to stay away from fallen cables that may have broken due to the high winds. ESB Emergency Services can be contacted at 1850372999.
• Bus Éireann’s schools transport services will not be operating in counties covered by Red level warnings. Because of the duty of care owed to children and to avoid the risk arising from travelling, the Department of Education and Skills is instructing all schools to act on the Department‘s advice and remain closed. Crèches and Montessori facilities should also remain closed Monday.
• People are asked to check in on isolated and vulnerable neighbours today in advance of the oncoming severe weather conditions and again after the worst of the event has passed.
• People are advised to remove patio furniture, rubbish bins and any loose items from around buildings, which can be turned into missiles by the wind.
