✨International Delegates in Galway for UNESCO Cities of Film Subnetwork Meeting – September 2026✨

Ardán, as manager of Galway City of Film / Ceantar Scannán, looks forward to welcoming delegates from designated UNESCO Creative Cities of Film around the world to Galway this September!

Representatives will join us from:
Sofia, Bulgaria;
Gydnia, Poland;
Bradford, UK;
Valladolid, Spain;
Bristol, UK;
Sarajevo, Bosnia;
Łódź, Poland;
Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam;
Cannes, France;
Potsdam, Germany;
Cluj-Napoca, Romania;
Terrassa, Spain;
São Paulo, Brazil;
Wellington, New Zealand;
Busan, South Korea;
Yamagata, Japan; &
Qingdao, China.

The delegates will arrive in to Galway on Sept 28th, where on their first night, they’ll enjoy the Sunday screening of the Little Cinema/ Galway City of Film 48 Hour Challenge.

On Mon, Sept 29th, the delegates will enjoy the surroundings of Claregalway Castle for a day of meetings.

On Monday evening, the delegates will join local dignitaries and industry peers in St. Nicholas’s Church for a celebration of Galway through the mediums of poetry, music, dance and film. The night will also include a collaboration with Belfast City of Music & Dublin City of Literature.

Following morning meetings, Tuesday will include a FAM (familiarisation) tour west to Spiddal and the Ros Na Rún set, where our delegates will be introduced to local industry representatives including TG4, Danú Media and Fíbín Media. Tuesday evening will include a cultural exploration of Galway City and evening entertainment.

The Subnetwork meeting concludes on Wed, Sept 30th, with the planning of network follow-ups and a handover to the 2027 host, Bristol.

Galway City of Film/ Ceantar Scannán is a UNESCO designation managed by Ardán on behalf of Galway City Council & Galway County Council, with additional support of Fís Éireann/ Screen Ireland & the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.

The 2026 Film Subnetwork meeting has been made possible with additional support from Culture Ireland as part of ‘Cultúr 2026: Sharing Ireland’s Culture’, the culture programme for Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026.

As the number of people recorded as disabled in Ireland has continued to increase since 2016, understanding the relationship between disability and housing is becoming increasingly important for effective and inclusive housing policy.

Our latest Data Insights report 'Disability and Housing in Ireland', explores the housing experiences of people with disabilities, examining disability demographics, housing affordability, social housing need and homelessness.

Bringing together data from a range of national sources, the report provides valuable insights into the challenges and inequalities experienced by people with disabilities in accessing and maintaining suitable housing, while also highlighting key policy initiatives aimed at delivering more accessible, inclusive and disability-friendly housing.

Participants Wanted for the MELODIC Project

Have you been diagnosed with cancer in the past two years and are aged between 18 and 35? Or are you caring for a young adult living with cancer?

The MELODIC Project (Mental Health Support for Young Adults with Cancer) is inviting young adults & their caregivers to take part in a new 12-week programme designed to support mental health & wellbeing.

The programme includes:
✅ Guided outdoor group sessions
✅ Online exercise classes
✅ Opportunities to connect with peers
✅ Discussions with healthcare professionals
✅ A supportive space to share experiences and feel understood

The project is led by researchers at the University of Galway Health Promotion Research Centre in collaboration with partners across Europe. The study aims to help young adults navigate life during and after a cancer diagnosis while also providing support for caregivers.
