Many of the biggest financial challenges people face are not caused by poor decisions, but by life events, changing circumstances, or opportunities that have simply been forgotten over time.

In this week’s Sunday Times “Your Questions Answered” feature, I address two situations that highlight just how important it is to regularly review your financial position.

The first involves a reader whose former spouse’s gambling addiction led to mortgage arrears, a personal insolvency arrangement and, years later, ongoing difficulties accessing credit. The second explores how to trace a potentially forgotten pension from a previous employer and why unclaimed retirement benefits can represent a significant lost opportunity.

Both cases underline an important lesson: financial setbacks do not have to define your future, and unanswered questions about your finances are often easier to resolve than you might think.

Whether you’re dealing with credit issues, reviewing your retirement planning, managing debt, or simply trying to understand your financial options, seeking advice early can make a meaningful difference.

Thank you to The Sunday Times for continuing to provide a platform for practical financial guidance that helps people make more informed decisions.

Access to investing has never been easier. Tax compliance has never been more complex.

Direct-to-consumer investment platforms have lowered barriers to entry, but they were not designed with Irish tax rules, regulatory obligations, or Revenue scrutiny in mind. For many professionals, particularly those in regulated sectors, this creates unintended exposure around dividend reporting, capital gains, foreign tax credits, and filing obligations.

Revenue’s increasing use of real-time data, third-party reporting, and advanced analytics means that investment compliance is no longer a once-a-year consideration. Issues are now being identified earlier, with interventions escalating quickly where income or gains are omitted.

An advisor-aligned investment structure brings coordination, oversight, and clarity, integrating portfolio decisions with tax reporting, regulatory considerations, and long-term planning.

At Curran Futures, we help clients navigate these complexities with confidence.

If you are unsure whether your current investment setup is fully tax-compliant, or would like to explore an advisor-supported approach, we are happy to have a conversation.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 & 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠

We often confidently say what matters most in life, family, health, work, freedom. But when we look at our diaries and bank statements, they tell a deeper story. What we truly spend our time and money on reveals our real priorities, even if they don’t always match what we say.

In this thought-provoking read, we explore how awareness of this gap can help you make more intentional financial and life choices, not by judging yourself, but by understanding the story your time and capital are already telling.

Money is a mirror. What’s truly important to you isn’t shown by what you say you value, it’s reflected in how you use your money.
A powerful insight shared by Carl Richards during his recent conversation with Ross Curran, CEO of Curran Futures.
It’s a powerful reminder to align our financial decisions with our real values, not just our words. 💡

💬 Chapter 2: The Money Conversation with Carl Richards
The true value of financial planning isn’t just in the numbers, it’s in the moments when you align your capital with what’s actually important to you.
In this chapter, Carl Richards and Ross explore how a first meeting can feel a bit like a first date, finding that balance between solving the problem and earning the trust to ask deeper questions. Because understanding purpose takes time… and that’s okay.

✨ At Curran Futures, we believe the most meaningful plans begin when money and purpose move in the same direction.

🎧 Tune in to Chapter 2 of The Money Conversation to hear how real connection turns financial planning into something far more powerful.
