Fraud Alert: Beware of Text Message and Telephone Scams
We are reminding all members to remain vigilant following a recent fraud attempt in an Irish Credit Union involving a sophisticated text message and telephone scam, known as "vishing."
Fraudsters sent a text message claiming to be from a credit union security team, advising the member to call a phone number regarding unusual activity on their account. When the member called, the fraudster convinced them to provide information that allowed access to their online account.
If you call, fraudsters may attempt to gain access to your account and ask you to provide One-Time Passcodes (OTPCs) sent to your phone.
Remember:
🔴Never share your OTPCs, passwords, or security codes with anyone.
🔴Your Credit Union will never ask for OTPCs over the phone.
🔴Be cautious of unexpected texts or calls, even if they appear genuine.
🔴If in doubt, contact your Credit Union directly using a trusted phone number.
Fraudsters are increasingly using convincing Irish accents, AI-generated voices, and spoofed text messages to appear legitimate.
Stay vigilant and protect your account. If you receive a suspicious message or call, do not provide any personal information and contact us immediately.
