Many people spend years paying into a pension without ever really thinking about retirement itself, their Second Life.

But our latest Bringing retirement into focus research suggests that putting the conversation off can leave people feeling less confident when retirement starts to come into focus.

Research referenced is conducted by 3Gem and Red C on behalf of Standard Life. Findings are based on a nationally representative survey of 5,356 adults in Ireland across 2025, alongside qualitative research with 48 adults aged 55+.

🗣"Your pension isn't just money, it's your ticket to your second life."

Pensions may seem daunting, but they really aren't as complicated as you think!

⏰️ In just thirty seconds, we can simply explain how pension tax works.

This applies to personal contributions to Personal Pensions and Personal Retirement Savings Accounts. Tax relief as a % of earnings ranges from 15% for under 30s, to 40% for over 60s.

The maximum earnings is €115,000 per year. Up to 25% of the fund can be taken as a lump sum at retirement, with a maximum total tax-free amount of €200,000 from all your Pensions.

Consumers need to claim the tax relief themselves. Based on law at October 2025.
